Could anyone post a review/actual experiences (good or bad) with their current production Model 29 "Classic" series??
Thanks, Bill

I had to send my 29 Classic back to Smith & Wesson after the barrel turned after the first 6 shots. The factory replaced the frame. It now shoots and looks good.

There was a review of the Classic 29 in one of the gun magazines -- I think Shooting Times, May edition -- and they loved the gun. Found it to have impeccable fit and finish and to shoot extremely well, slightly more accurately, in fact, than the 29-2 which they compared it with.

I have a 629 classic in 6 1/2" barrel. has the lock. I really enjoy shooting this handgun. I have 6 other handguns of diff calibers to choose from. this one always brings a smile to my face. I have shot apx 500 rounds through it, never a problem. a person at our gun club had a 44 mag semi auto. We shot each others pistols. he felt the revolver kicked less that his eagle did. the 629 classic is a fantastic revolver. IMHO

Bill I thought I would add my 2 cents. My friend bought a Classic Model 29-10 6.5" when they first came out about 2 years ago. He has been telling me since then that it shoots better than the 29-2 he had, locks up tighter, etc. He also attributes this to the possibility that his 29-2 he bought used and may have had a lot of wear and tear. He said he has a very light Cor bon 165 gr bullet that is a real screamer and fun to shoot in the big gun. I am going to try it soon hopefully. He also adds that he does not care for the new Altamont stocks it wears, look good but are not as wide as the old original target stocks of Elmer Keith days. I would love to have a Model 29-2, but I have trouble finding one to lay my hands on as easily as this new model. Does anyone else have one of these new Classic badboys?

I have one of the 29-10's and it seems to be OK. I can't say how good/bad it is cause I'm fairly new to it and no expert, but the stocks lack a ton to be desired. They seem extremely cheap to me.

Just my .02 worth...

I bought one late last year. I only have 100 or so rounds through it, but it shoots very well so far. The action is smooth and the finish is pretty nice. I thought the stocks were OK, but changed them out for an old pair of Bear Hug Skeeter Stocks.
