The thought of thousands of retired quality Smith's (carried a lot, fired a little) landing back home on the open market has had my interest peaked for months, but have not heard anything of late. For once I'd like to be toward the front of the line:)

Someday maybe.

I keep telling myself the sunshine here behind the tofu curtain is worth it... :(

First post! Are you talking about the 66-7? We bought an Australian PD turn-in a few months ago. A local FFL got about six of them directly from S&W. Hope this helps.

Flint.... Buds has square butt Model 10's for $269.00 shipped to your F.F.L. I got mine 2 weeks ago. Expect some blue wear! Mine is a 10-8 (1981) Anyway, a solid gun in my book, and a good value. My 1st day at the range was short, but it functioned well. (me not too bad either) Buds is a good outfit to deal with. My 4th purchase from them. Bob

2 1/2" 66

I've seen a couple of nice looking Mod 66 2 1/2" models on Gunbroker recently. Their description said they were Australian PD guns. Just FYI.

Florida, supposedly some were sent here without firing pins, and the sellers (dealers) had new ones installed. This is according to what another member stated in a different post. Bob

Do they have import markings on them?

Craig, there is a circular sticker on the right side of the frame by the hammer. This sticker has scan data on it. (tracking info) My I.D. # is VPA03425. Victoria Police Armoury. There were a few of the sticker pics posted in the 1st posts on the 3" Model 10's from Buds. (not very good!) Bob

I bought a 66-7 at a gun show the other day. The seller told me it was an aussie police trade-in. Excellent shape. I took it to the range and it was a good shooter. There were no markings on it though.

The gun looked too good to be a cop gun. The seller explained that the aussie cops apparently keep them locked up and take them out only when specific circumstances warrant. I don't know how true that is but the gun is in great shape. $470 out the door. Seems good compared to the 686 I was looking at.

That's good they don't have import markings on them. I know there have been a few model 39s and 3rd gens that have import markings right on the slide, pretty much right on the S&W roll mark. It makes me sick every time I see it.
