Anybody have the M&P R8?

I'm thinking of purchasing an M&P R8 in 357 magnum. It looks like an "interesting" revolver to me. I've never held or even seen one "live". Anybody have one? Thoughts, impressions, opinions, etc.

I like mine. Nice shooter. 8 rounds of 357 goodness. Traditionalist don't like the rail but I don't mind a little fugliness.

I too find it an interesting model but have never seen, much less held, one in real life. Just my 2 cents; if S&W needed to increase their sales of certain models (which, I'm guessing they don't), they could put some of these out as rentals at the ranges so people could try them out and then order them.

I'd like to try one for Steel Challenge, but they're too expensive, and I all ready have a 627-PC.

MSRP I've found on most guns to be a good 20%+ too high. With some effort and patience one should be able to get a good discount off the MSRP.

I have a TRR8 (the TRR8 has a removable front rail and the window through on the ejector rod), it's an "N" frame but lighter than my 686 even though the 686 is smaller. My 12 year old can shoot it no problem and until I got the smaller 686, the TRR8 was his favorite. There is less felt recoil on the TRR8 with .357's but we've been shooting more .38's and the difference there is negligible.

I got mine at a gun show in Houston in early December for less than $1k out the door new. I saw the M&P R8 from the same dealer in late December for under $1K.

I love mine, it's my favorite. I put a reflex site on it and had a flashlight that the kiddo stole for his 10/22 build. With the reflex site I have no problem hitting whatever at 25 yards (I'm still learning the revolver way ) probably 4 inch groups. It's capable of way more than I can do right now but I'm still practicing.

I have NO regrets buying it, it's the reason I picked up the 686 (traded an XDM for it) and the reason I have the revolver bug now.

I found two at the local shop here in Colorado Springs. One is now sitting behind the counter with my name on it, waiting on our backed-up background checks.

I've always wanted one and now there are rumors of our govenor (Colorado) wanting to prohibit sales of anything with a removable magazine... Yea, seems pretty extreme but the Dems have control in our House and Senate so anything is possible.

Can anyone offer a good holster option, preferably in black?

Just picked mine up today, and I love it. Alot lighter than expected, smooth shooting. I ordered a Delta Point reflex site for it. Very fun shooter.

I had a trr8 when they first came out. The first time I took it out the steel tab on the top strap was coming down and hitting the cylinder with every shot and was ripping the finish off the cylinder. I sent it back to smith & wesson, they repaired it. As soon as I got it back, I sold it. Now I have a 627.

If you plan on doing lots of shooting, I don't think this is the revolver to buy. The cool factor is way up there however.

It's a fantastic shooting gun!

I have had my gun for a year. I have run about 1,000 rounds through it pretty evenly split between .38 and .357 and almost all were 158g. Accuracy is very nice. Single action trigger is feather-light and surprised me the first few times I fired it that way. Double action on the other hand is a little heavy and also takes some getting used to.

I have never regretted this purchase. I picked it up on grab a gun dot com (minus spaces) for about $1K.

I struggled finding a holster for it but finally found a guy out of Arizona that started his custom holster business because of this gun. He has a website but search for "Simply Rugged Pancake Holster" and you will find his online shop. I got the one in oxblood color instead of black. It's a fine holster and the customer service was fantastic.

Not sure about black, but I carry mine in a Galco Phoenix
It is a strong side or cross draw type. Have one for my 617 as well. Cross draw is perfect for riding on the tractor or working.
