I am a master griller (Charcoal only, thank you) and discovered a steak a few years ago I had never heard of: Chuck Chuck Eye. It is apparently the end of the Chuck Roast. The guy who works the meat case at the grocery store told me to try it. It's about half the price of Ribeye, and I think it's way better. I've had some I could cut with a fork.
Anybody else try it?

Flavor is fine, but it's tough as nails.

Give me a ribeye any day, or even a skit steak if I have time to do it right

I've never heard of it, but if I can find one I'll give it a try. I didn't think flat Iron steak would be as good as I was told....I was wrong.

Someone else already mentioned my issue--flavor is fine but it's not the tenderest cut of steak.

For health reasons we eat only grassfed beef so that issue is multiplied. NO grain fed meats, not even grain finished, and no antibiotic treatment, and because the fat content is so much lower in a completely pastured animal...even with lower temps and longer cook times with marinade...this cut usually ends up in the ground beef instead of steaks for us. I like beef jerky...but I don't like to try to pass it off as steak.

Sounds like to get the real thing, a friend or relative has to be the butcher or you just may not get the real thing.

This is a pretty fatty steak, it's "marbled" like a good Ribeye. We have broiled them right out of the freezer, but I like to grill them. Missus P&R Fan and my daughter like steaks pretty well done. My son and I like them just a bit warmer than raw.:D Either way, these are VERY good, and they're not tough at all. I have bought Sirloins and Ribeyes and they weren't bad, this is my new favorite steak.
I don't have to special order them either. The big grocery chain in Iowa is called Hy-Vee, and that's where I get them.

If you need grass fed, you need to try buffalo. By law it must be grass fed no grains. It is less cholesterol than chicken and given a choice of beef or buffalo, I'll choose buffalo every time. It's a bit more expensive, but because of low fat content, you have less schrinkage. Cook lower and slower than beef. We get buffalo from Buffalo Gal Buffalo Meat, Bison Meat for Sale, Order Buffalo Grass-Fed Bison Online, Bison Steaks, Buffalo Burger, Buffalo Meat Recipes
We had buffalo burgers for dinner tonight- YUM!

I have had buffalo burgers many times, but never buffalo steak. There is a higher end steakhouse nearby that very occasionally gets in Buffalo Steaks, I just have not been there when they actually have it. It's definitely on my to do list.

I live in the great state of Texas. The closest store that carries bison is only about 5 minutes from here.

I've been doing grassfed only for a long time. I also eat only raw dairy and organic, non-GMO fruits and vegetables. Lost over 100lbs, and take no more prescription medicines. As an aside, I also save money and live better WITHOUT Wal-mart, to put a spin on their sales line.

I make all our washing products too...we don't do much of anything like the rest of the world here.

The grocery stores and big pharma is what's killing people, not guns!

Thanks for telling everybody, it's hard enough to find them as it is! Chuck eye is my favorite cut for grilling at home, it's tender and flavorful and pretty forgiving on the grill, hard to screw one up as long as you don't over cook it.

Not a fan of the Chuck Eye. It tastes too much like roast and is too tough.

Sir loin is my cut. Just a couple hours soak in my secret marinade, and lil' seasoning makes "Outback" look like Burger King.:D

I always liked deer steaks.

Even better when I'm given them. ;)

Although, I cannot guarantee that all the deer I eat is "corn-free." They seem to hang 'round corn and sorghum fields when possible.

Deer that eat onions have a good taste believe it or not!

Don't you have to cook bison until it is 100% done like bear steaks? I've heard it has a lot of parasites in it like bear.
