Anyone else prefer the heft of a steel j frame?

I also prefer a steel "J" frame, alternating between my M36, M49 and M60 in an old Galco or Bianchi holster. I have a M37, just noticed the typical frame crack under the barrel. Its only had a handful of rounds put through it. No more alloy frames for me.

I have had a Colt Cobra and a 2" Model 36 since the late 70's While I do like them both I would rather have a Detective Special instead of the Cobra . When I decided to add another snubbie I picked up a Model 36 round butt. To me the alloy guns just seem fragile, especially the J Frames. Just my opinion but I really don't see the weight saving as that much of an advantage.

Always steel. My old M49 has been my constant companion as backup/off duty since the early 80’s. I rarely pocket carry, but when necessary, it works. Now long-retired, it rides AIWB whenever I put on pants!

I could go either way, Airweight or steel. Went with a little extra weight today…a 36-2 with 3” barrel.

I have a lightweight 442 and a heavier M60. I carry the 442 a lot, but I only shoot it every so often.

I have a 83 & 84, M49 stainless 38 special that weighs around 22.5 with grips
that is a lot easier to shoot than any 442 or newer +P airweight model, revolver...........

if you are shooting +P SD ammo, out of these snub nose revolvers that
has a pill at 125 grains or heavier and gets 200 ft/lbs of energy or more.

A great gun if you can master the recoil and get your groups on target.

When I put on a badge, my duty revolver was either a 3"/4" K-frame or 4" L-frame .357 Magnum. My backup guns were Airweight J-frames until I finally found a 2" S&W Model 12-2 Airweight K-frame. After I retired, I retired the Model 12-2 (shipped in 1963). My 1st/last duty revolver is my 4" Model 65-1. My usual EDC is a 2" steel Taurus 856. Sometimes a Ruger EC9s takes its place for a lower profile. Shortly before I retired, I had the "opportunity" to shoot a Model 340 PD with Magnum ammo. I didn't drop it and hit the silhouette with all 5 rounds. I handed it back to the owner with thanks and iced my hand. For revolvers these days, I prefer steel.

I generally prefer shooting snub K-frames over J-frames. As far as the latter go, however, the slight extra weight of a steel framed model is well worth the trade-off - they're noticeably more pleasant to shoot than a comparable Airweight.

I recently bought a 640-1 to go with my 642 and 442. I don’t mind shooting the air weights, but I can shoot the 640 longer. I don’t know if I will be able to pocket carry the 640 in my shorts this summer but I am willing to give it a try.

I prefer steel as well. That said my primary carry has been a 19-4 snub for many years.

I own a 36 nd 3 in, 640 nd and a 642 nl. The J I carry the most is the 640 nd...really like the old girl.

In fact, I have been on vacation the last 10 days and it has been on my belt every waking moment.
