I knew I should have stayed away from the brown acid.....:D

A little ways from AZ, but the Cape Coral snake is pink. Has snazzy black trim. In southern Africa, into Namibia.

Cape Coral Snakes Are Dangerous - Bing

It's an elapid, but often not considered a true cobra. And the red spitting cobra in parts of Kenya is red to pink.

Red Spitting Cobra, Naja pallida.

One figured prominently in a short story I wrote on FanFiction.net.

You may have seen the late Steve Irwin foolishly chasing them in Kenya, on TV. They'll happily bite, but prefer long range work with a venom-spitting capability, and usually aim right for the eyes. This does nothing whatever beneficial for your vision!

I have no issues with snakes.

Snakes kill bugs.

I have issues with bugs... many issues.

I almost stepped on a pink rattlesnake once. I didn't see it because it was the same color as the red rock it was on. It had tan/brown patches too but was mostly pink. It rattled and I quickly lept to another rock. It was such a pretty color; it looked like a sunset.

Jag312 - I saw one of those San Francisco Garter snakes once too. My husband didn't believe me that I saw a blue snake. Agreed, such a beautiful snake! I never knew what it was. It sounds like they are very rare, only about 1,000 left so a real treat when you see one.

Coachwhips are sight hunters. A good clue would be if he had his head elevated while "running" ways. ps: They are nasty biters!

A glossy snake is another possibility. They are more cream colored. Look sorta like a faded gopher snake only whiter and smooth scales. A long nosed snake has a red back with dark saddles.

Assume you know what a sidewinder looks like. Borrow a copy of Stebbin's Field Guide.

Brilliant? Meh. Average intelligence at best, to be cold-blooded about it. ;):D

Where was your camera when you needed it, Paladin? :)

I actually had a point-and-shoot camera in the car, but when my car surprised the little booger on the road, he took off like a rocket into a nearby ravine - it was the fastest-moving snake I have ever seen. The "red racer" nickname fits it quite aptly. If he had stopped, I would have tried to grab a picture. Never got the chance.

If I doesn't have a rattle, I don't usually pay it any mind, but if it was bright pink I may have snapped a picture. I got too many rattlers around my house, so it's the shovel and the trash can for them.

One thing about coachwhips/racers==they are FAST!

Funny thing is the one my Dad and I found was pretty chilled out and leisurely. He was in a bird preserve that has regular human visitors, so I wonder if he just didn't perceive people as much of a threat.
