Anyone familiar with Tanfoglio Pistols?

I've owned about a dozen Tanfoglio made CZ clones over the last 15 years, and had zero issues with any of them. The nasty guy at EAA seems to be long gone. Last time I bought parts from them, a very nice woman answered the phone and took my order.

My favorite gun, period, an Israeli surplus gem. Slide fit is amazing and the SA trigger is fantastic.

I have several more, along with 2 Jericho 941's, which, at least the early ones, are basically parts made by Tanfoglio, and assembled in Israel.

I have had only one Tanfoglio firearm to date, a TZ-75 Series 88, chambered in 9x19mm. The issue I had was a failure to eject or at least fully eject spent cases. I guess mine was set up for European 9x19mm ammo as Fiocchi ammo was perfectly reliable, but unless I used NATO or +P rounds, most U.S. manufactured ammo was less than perfect in terms of proper ejection. I found that a 2 pound lighter recoil spring made the U.S. manufactured ammo reliable. Mine was also set up with sights that seemed to have been regulated for something beyond 25 yards, so I guess they would have been spot-on at 50 meters. Other than that, it was a perfectly good pistol, accurate, good double action pull and a really pleasant single action pull.

Thanks for the continued great info, Gents. I have found a couple on GB but they only include one mag & are pretty pricey as such. Even Greg Cote doesn’t have the 14-rd 10mm mags. There’s one on the local gun trader but it’s scratchy and the guy is trying to scalp it out at $850.

I would love to send a box of ammo through one of those and test drive it. That isn’t a pistol that would fit in to my cache but I’d love to have enough experience with one to recommend it to other folks who ask me for ideas.

If you would open a new discussion after you have run that sucker hard, I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences on it.

Ummm okay hold the phone.

I just looked THAT pistol up on Grabagun and it’s $599 before tax and shipping.

I've run a box of 50 10mm through mine without any hiccups or failures, so far so good. However, I'll be holding on to the rest of my 10mm until the plandemic is over.

I'm late to the game and have never owned a Witness in 10mm, although a friend did and gave it high marks.

I have a Witness in .45 ACP with the extra .22LR upper. As a .45 it's a great gun and my go-to for bumps in the night. As a .22 it makes me ashamed of my K-22 and inspires dreams of bullseye competition. Before the panicdemic I picked up a .38 Super upper and after fixing a factory magazine with the follower installed backwards (!) it has been as ultra-reliable as the others. If I ever decided to play with the 10mm, that's what I'd look for.

As you can tell, I am still undecided.

If you're talking about the SAR 2000, it was $479+tax+Ship. Not cheap, but not bad.

Yes, you said exactly that. When I went directly to where you said you ordered it, I found the price nowhere near that currently.

..., I have the EAA Witness, Compact 10mm in all stainless with their "Wonder Finish" which is just a heat treated stainless for the color results.
I can't vouch for what may be in their line-up today. A buddy I met years ago has a wonder finish in 9mm. My caustic perspiration caused it to discolor a bit, as he did NOT wipe it down after our range visit. I've always been under the impression it's merely a nickel, or possibly chrome, of some sort over carbon steel.

I got a 9mm Tanfoglio FAB92 in a trade deal. Thinking it was just a piece of junk, it got put into the very back of the gun safe and sat there for many, many years. Several years ago, on a whim, I dug it out and took it to the range. Was I surprised at the accuracy of the gun and how well it felt when shooting! It turned into one of my favorite shooters. I was looking for a 38 Super handgun and since I liked the 9mm Tanfoglio so much that I went for the EAA Witness in .38 Super. Great gun and 17 rd. magazine is a real plus.

I had the steel version a few years ago. Shot very well. Heavy and bulky, but great at the range. I also had a .22 conversion kit for it. Only sold it as I just didn't need another heavy range gun.

Early Tanfoglio pistols like the TZ-75 were available in blue or chrome, but the later, EAA Witness versions were blue or Wonder Finish. What is Wonder Finish? It is actually a heat treatment process which gives the steel a very hard surface, which helps resist corrosion and wear.

I have a friend who has the "acid hands" and his sweat ate up his "wonder finish" Witness in a hurry. He ended up having it NP3'd and sadly, I couldn't buy it from him when he sold it. It looked great and was super smooth shooting. They tell you in the manual that the Wonder Finish needs to be be oiled like it is blued, and they are correct about that. My Mossad guns appear to have a different finish on them, and I tested them and they appear to be electroless nickel. On one of them, the slide appears to be SS, but I'm not sure. Whatever it is, it has stayed very nice over it's 30+ year life.

Tangfoglio claims it's just a heat treated stainless, so I could see how acidic, corrosive body oils could change the color.
