Anyone have a .270 cal rifle?

I love my .270. And it loves Nosler BT-IBT 130 grain bullets. And those bullets love to blow up big whitetails. :D

Joerm,

My first gun love was and still is bolt action rifles. Curiosity got the better part of me, so I went to the Ruger website and looked up your rifle. It looks nifty. I'll second the Weaver 3 x 9, which will fit your budget. I noticed the All American comes with scope bases, but nothing was said about rings. You'll probably need a few more bucks to get rings.

Ruger makes fine firearms. I have a Model 77 Mk.II Ultralight .308, two Red Label 12 gauges, and a couple of their .44 Magnum revolvers. I love all of them.

Your .270 will be a versatile rifle and serve you well, as would a 30-06, .308, or .243.

You can't go wrong with a .270. I have a Tikka and several uncles have remington 721's in .270 and they have killed a lot of deer with them. Its a good long range cartridge. I used to use 130 grain hornady's loading them with very good accuracy and performance. You will not be dissapointed in it...and the other calibers are also fine cartridges....but a .270 is flatter shooting. Good Luck.

I've had a .270 Browning A-Bolt for a few years. It's one of those guns that leaves a three day grin on your face after shooting it. I bought it to deer hunt over wheat fields in western Oklahoma, shoots long distance very well.

I have a FN Model 70 Winchester Featherweight in 270 and it turned out to be my number one hunting rifle.

It's an excellent long range round too, I have good luck to 1200 yards using either 150 Bergers, and 150 gr Hornady SSTs & InterBonds.

Got this guy at 586 measured yards with the above rifle and Hornady Interbonds. One shot, he ran about 25 yards then did a triple sumersault.

Google Jack O Conner and read what he says about the M-70 .270 Winchester. Great round and I have been shooting it since the late 70's.

Jump on that .270! I've used it for whitetail, and the
deer don't go Anywhere after impact. I can't say it's
better than .308 or .30-06 for deer, but with a 130-grain
bullet it's as deadly as anything. (deerwise)
