I want to load up some 41 for some paper punching fun. Id like to shoot some 215 LSW I would guess around 800 850 fps. I have Bullseye, Reddot, Greendot, Unique, 2400, some 231 and some SR7625.

I am shooting 38 HBWC in a 6" M28. Id like to change it up a bit and use a 6" M57.

Shooting a timed event six shots 15 seconds so recoil must be light.

I cant find load this low.

I am guessing 6G Unique?

I guess it depends what you define as a paper punching load. I shoot 8gr Unique under a 210gr LSW. This is out of a 4" Titanium Taurus Tracker and recoil is there but not bad. If you really want next to zero recoil...well, 6gr Unique I would guess is below minimum, but that's a guess without checking my book. Trail Boss, perhaps? I have done some light Red Dot loads but I don't have them written down anymore. They were light on recoil but not accurate at all.

I shoot 7.5 grains of Unique and a 215 grain SWC, just shot 100 of these last evening. Recoil is not bad but I have loaded 6 grains of Unique with the same bullet for my wife to shoot. It's a great load too and just as accurate.

The bane of trying to make "too light" of a load for a magnum revolver, in my experience.

I just finished a bunch of testing for a new batch of .41s. I need to load up several hundred and whenever I plan to load a quantity of something I haven't worked with for a while, I usually go back and double-check everything - just to be sure nothing has changed.

In my notes from the '90s, I had found 7.0 grs W231 was the best target load in my guns. In my current testing, that was confirmed. This time around, I compared 231 to 7625, AA5, and Universal.

In my 6-inch 57, 7.0 grs of 231 clocked about 960 FPS and 7.5 grs bumped it up to 1020 FPS. In both cases, ES was around 15-30 FPS for six rounds. The bullet was an H&G #258 220 grs, with Winchester cases and F150 primers.

This is faster than you are looking for, but my experience is that .41 and .44 loads running slower than this never seem to shoot as well. Either load is fairly mild in a 6-inch gun, and not too bad in a 4-incher.

The customary disclaimer: Use the usual safe reloading practices. :)

9.7 grains of Unique and a 210 grain Berry's plated bullet. Very mild recoil and just under 1200 fps out of my 5-1/2 inch Redhawk.
