I'm looking at a bunch of options and leaning toward the Ameriglo 3 Dot SW-145. Looked at the TruGlo TFX but don't like the reduced sight radius they create.

Would appreciate any input anybody has with any night sights on the Shield. My LGS smith will install them for free.

I have a 10-8 on the back and have been thinking about a night sight on the front only.

I have the ameriglo pro I dot on mine. Shine very brite, fit was very nice, that orange dot hits your eye like a Mack truck in the day light. Only reason I don't like the three dot is in complete darkness, you may not know what dots are lined up where. For instance your gun is aiming to the left of p.o.a. all three dots may be lined up, but not in the correct positions. With the ameriglo two dots, there is pretty much a fool proof way of knowing the dots are lined up exactly as needed.

Thanks, Coondog, that's the kind of info I was looking for.

My experience with the Shieldbis pretty recent, and my only effort to customize the sights has been to black out the rear dots with a Sharpie. I have Trijixon orange HDs on three other pistols that get carried, and find the big orange dot to be the best of all worlds for me and my eyes at this stage of my life. When I begin to carry the Shield, I will probably install a set on it also. The Trijicons are expensive but well worth the money.

+1 Really like mine as well :)

I have XS big dots on mine. Got them for a great price and the front post glows really well at night. Just dot the i and you are good to go!

I have have the TruGlo TFO night sights on my Ruger LC9S, and love them! The sheild is pretty much the same size as the lc9s. Three green dots, very easy to see and line up. Nice bright green in the light of the day, nice right green at night/ pitch black!

Trijicon HD's on mine. The orange front site is very visible in daylight. Bright green 3 dot in the dark. Very happy with how they work and look on the gun.

I have the same on my Glock 23.

How was the install? What did you use to push the sights in the dovetail?

I really dont want to spend on a sight pusher that I will use once.

Lots will tell you to use a hammer, that's how a gun shop just installed my big Dots an hour or so ago. I read somewhere it's easy to break a sight with a pusher for a few reasons.

Thanks folks. I have the Meprolight Pro I-Dots on the way and a quality, experienced gunsmith lined up to install them. I'll report back.

Sights bought and installed!

OK -- I "discovered" XDMan xd-hs2000 through this forum, but he was out of the sights I wanted which were are the Ameriglo Pro I-Dot in orange (front) and green (rear).

After checking with him that he had time to do it, I packed and mailed my slide and the sights to him, paid him per his website's instructions, and asked for two day turnaround. He got them late Thursday, and had the finished job in the mail on Saturday. I got the slide in this morning's mail (Monday).

I love the sights, which really draw you to the front sight, and XDMan's gun-smithing was PERFECT. Not a mark anywhere, the sights are perfectly centered and the turnaround time was unbelievable.

I have to say it was a 5-star experience!! Below are two pictures, one focused on the rear sight and one on the front (it's really hard to hold a pistol and get a sight picture with a camera in your other hand).

I also blacked out the dots on my factory rear sight then fitted and installed a tritium front sight I bought from Dawson Precision. After blacking out the rear dots my old eyes are much better focused on the front sight.....Mike

Been wanting to do the Ameriglo Pro I-dots in orange since I got my Shield 2 years ago. Just seemed like too much of a hassle to change them (send em off, heat em freeze em, beat em, or buy a pusher) so I've just been running blacked out rears and orange painted dot up front. Really works well, just no night sight capabilities.
With that said, I just acquired a G27, and right away ordered those sights and installed them myself in less that 15 minutes.
For me they are excellent. Bright orange dot in the day, with tritium glow for night. I also find that lining up two dots on top of each other, is easier than 3 dots side by side. YMMV.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

The guy I mentioned in my post above xd-hs2000will install them for under $30, you just send him your slide, and either buy the sights from him (in which case installation is free) or get them from Amazon or OpticsPlanet and send them with the slide. I mailed mine on Wednesday, got it back all done on Monday.

No doubt the route to go, but that ship has already sailed for me. The G27 is only a smooth faced trigger away from my perfect EDC. Don't really need to spend a $100 + on the Shield, as its set up just fine for back up duty.
Thanks anyway, you never know.
