My local gun club had a swap meet today and I came across a guy selling Federal HiPower JHP 10MM ammo (XM1001a). I was able pick up several boxes for only $12.50/50rnd box which is basically half price of what you would pay for the cheapest 10mm ammo out there. I looked online but could not find any info on this load. Would like to know what velocities these are loaded to and what bullet is used. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. Thanks.

If what you bought is indeed Federal factory ammo, you did very well! Federal High Power has always performed just fine for me in .38 Spl., ,357 Mag., 9mm Para., .44 Spl. and .45 ACP. Federal brass is among the best for reloading, performing fully as well as W-W, R-P, or PMC.
If, on the other hand, they are reloads, commercial or otherwise, all bets are off and only the brass gets my vote.
Hope this is helpful.

Thanks Larry. They are factory loads. Still have the sealent around the primer. The guy was a dealer and said he had this ammo sitting around for a decade. Not much interest in the 10mm I guess. Like you said, I would pay $12.50/box just for the federal brass.
If anyone has info on the velocity for this round then please share. Wondering if i should save a few boxes for HD rounds or if these were downloaded to 40 S&W velocities like so many factory loads are. I'll use them for target practive if they are slow.

Tactical:

If they ar 155gr HP, they are listed at 1325 fps.. If they are 180 gr HP's they are going out at 1030 fps..

Federal's Hi-Power 10mm XM1001 is from the late-80's to early '90's. The XM1001 was the early FBI experimental round.

One of my dept's retired sergeants went to the FBI Academy around '89-'90 and brought me back a loaded round, ten empty cases and an end flap from the box that was labeled XM1001.

CTG Collector, thanks for the additional info. You are spot on as the boxes have 1989 printed on them.

Dave, may I ask where you got the velocity info?

Good info... never hurts to ask, huh?
Best suggestion I can muster is get with a fellow shooter with a chronograph and get your own speed limits.
Good luck.

Guys,

If I'm not mistaken, the XM1001 was the FBI "Special" -a 180 Sierra @ 950. I don't know what the "A" suffix stands for.

The issue FBI 190 load for the MP-5-XM1003A- goes 1020 out of a 5".

The commercial Federal 180 HP (C10C) was advertised at 1030- went a little faster in my 5" C***s. Same for the 180FMJ (XM10).

Good shooting.
