Anyone here work as a heater/AC repairman?

Glad to hear you narrowed it down to the control board. Contact relays do eventually wear out; I've replaced them more than once on Red Lion T-stats that control melting pots.

How many old timers here are still familiar with the lost art of adjusting heat anticipators? :D

And now for the bad news....

A coworker's cousin is an HVAC guy. He came and checked everything out and found that it was the motherboard but couldn't fix it because he would need to order it. Told me to instead call a company out that services my heater and they should have that part.

I called, guy came over ....and in 3 seconds shut my heater down completely. Cracked heat exchanger!! Need new heater. Salesman came out and I'll have a new heater on Tuesday

You might want to get a 2nd opinion on that...

When the heat exchanger goes can't you get carbon monoxide poisoning? I don't think they're repairable you have to get a new furnace at least that's what I have been told. I hate reading stuff like this because my central air unit is from 1970 a Westinghouse unit & I have owned this place since 2002 & never had it serviced. It worked fine last summer but another summer is coming.

Yes if the crack is big enough.

Glad you found and are going to get it fixed.

Sorry for the expense.

Ask around to see if there are any tax credits or rebates for installing a new energy efficient unit.

Yuck. Bad luck, but at least you didn't wake up dead from CO.
