Anyone interested in Truglo TFO's for Shield?

TruGlo doesn't list a Shield specific TFO sight as available. The standard M&P version almost fits properly, but I suspect many of those interested want one that doesn't hang over the edges of the slide.

What kind of idiot would do that? Mine don't hang over the edges of the slide. They are TroGlo TFOs for the M&P Shield.

I have the TFO's FS ones with the rear sides ground down just little so they don't hang over. The edges on top of the rear sight are a little pointy (sharp) for pocket carry (they catch a little), but not bad enough to not pocket carry. I still like them better than the originals. Ones that fit the Shield width specifically with the rear sight designed better for pocket carry would be realy nice and I would buy them.

Roger,
I've been all over the Midway and TruGlo website and I find nothing "Shield" specific pertaining to the TruGlo TFO sight system. Midway does have a Shield specific sight system made by HIVIZ which has a somewhat similar look but from what I can gather they do not "Glo" in the dark and need a light source to work effectively.
Is there a chance the TruGlos that you purchased from Midway might have been made for another brand of handgun but fits your Shield perfectly? Wouldn't that be cool.

About 9 months ago they were at MidwayUSA advertised for the M&P Shield. Said so on the packaging when I received them. They fit absolutely 100% perfectly. Remember, prior to the Shield's release, S&W colluded with several accessory makers in anticipation of it's market debut. The only thing I can tell you my friend, is that they're completely sold out.

For those of you who "just have to have the Tru-Glo" -- I was in the same boat until today.

Ok -- I just put a set of AmeriGlo Classic 3-dots on my Shield 40 today. A few days ago, I started a thread about the Tru-Glo not being available yet for the Shield. One of the responders suggested that AmeriGlo had tritiums for the Shield. I have Tru-Glo on my FS 9 and really like them. But when I saw the AmeriGlo today, I told my gunsmith to put them on. I cannot say enough good things -- here is why.

The 3-dots are what I would call a hybrid. During the day, it is much like the OEM sights except better because the tritium part acts like a smaller target in the middle of the white. You of course don't see any green at all in the daylight. In pitch dark, the AmeriGlo green is just as bright as the Tru-glo when I did a side-by-side comparison with my FS 9, with the small exception that the tritium (green) part of the AmeriGlo is ever so slightly smaller in diameter -- this of course being a result of the "hybrid" that I mentioned above.

But the best part is say at dusk -- or if you are in a room that is only half way dark. The AmeriGlo's are easier to see than the Tru-Glo, because while the active tritium is not doing it's thing, the white outer ring of the AmeriGlo dominates.

I cannot understand how an i-dot system can be more accurate than the 3-dot, especially when you put "elevation" into the equation. But everyone has their favorites.

I almost now wish I had seen the AmeriGlo first 6 months ago before I purchased the Tru-Glo for my 9.

In the picture below, that is a false impression of seeing green in daylight -- you don't. It looks like a medium color gray, and there is no "glow" during the day.

They won't make a specific one for the Shield. I had traded my Shield for an XDS shortly after I started this thread. Now I have another Shield. I am going to put a set of Trijicon HD's on mine and call it a day

Thank God. You won't keep driving the rest of us nuts by saying, "They don't make specific TruGlo for the Shield"
They did. Mine's wearing a set. Perfect fit.
Why would they stop making them?
Millions of $$$ to be earned.

Sure they do, What's the part number to order them? What was the part # from Midway? You can look in your order history and provide that. Several people disagree with you so please back up your statement with facts.

I am interested in hearing this as well.my front dot popped out within the first fifty rounds, so I need a solution-

Good idea. Just looked at order history. Not there. Must have got them from OP Optics Planet
Here's an idea for you.
Look on the other thread here that mentions TFO sights and you'll see a guy posted several pictures of his Shield wearing TFOs!!
Seeing is believing my friend.

This is a crazy thread

I installed the standard M&P Truglos on my Shield a few months back

What are you waiting for?

They are already out

Here is a pic from the thread you linked to, clearly shows the over hang on the rear sight on the slide, they are for the full size.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1368100674.454320.jpg

Email from TRUGLO

Technically, you're both right.

I sent an email to TRUGLO the other day asking if they intend to produce sights specifically for the M&P Shield. I received a very detailed email from them yesterday. Great customer service BTW:

Dave,

Thank you for your e-mail and the interest in our TRUGLO handgun sights for the Smith & Wesson Shield pistol.

The New Smith & Wesson Shield pistols (9mm & .40 caliber) do share the same front and rear dovetail dimensions as the Full-size and Compact Smith & Wesson M&P pistols.

There is a correct POI (Point Of Impact) result and overall performance and fitment is acceptable when our handgun sights have been installed on the Smith & Wesson Shield pistols.

We have noticed a small detail we feel obliged to bring to the attention of all potential owners of Smith & Wesson Shield pistols if they are considering installation of any of the TRUGLO sights for the M&P series of handguns:

TG131MPT
TG131MPTY
TG231MP
TG131MP

On the rear sight ONLY, there is a slight protrusion of the sight base that extends approximately (0.015") beyond the upper portion of the slide's radius top left/right edges. This slight extension does not extend past the overall width of the slide and in fact remains well within the overall width of the slide.

Please see the photo of the current TG131MPT rear sight installed on the Smith & Wesson Shield.

In our opinion, the rear sight does not present an opportunity to become snagged on any material, nor will it interfere with holster fit and operation. While very insignificant in its presence beyond the slide's radius edge, we do not recommend the rear sight be modified in any fashion as to minimize this overall width. Any kind of revision to this sight may result in damaging the tritium or fiber-optic components of the sight and will void the TRUGLO warranty.

At this time, we are working on a revision to this sight, where its overall width would be reduced enough to alleviate the small portion of the rear sight that comes past the radius.

We hope to have this revised rear sight available as an inline change and that will be incorporated into our current four sight selections for the Smith &Wesson Shield pistols, detailed above.

Once we have established a specific beginning to the manufacture of these sets of sights with their revised rear sight platform, TRUGLO we will be able to relate the identity sight sets with this structural change through production coding and make Smith & Wesson Shield owners aware of this better option for their pistols.

In the meantime, we do not feel there is a problem to install any of the following sight sets on your Smith & Wesson Shield TG131MPT TG131MPTY TG231MP TG131MP and look forward to even better installation options in the next few months.

We appreciate your interest in and choosing TRUGLO products.

Shoot safely,

Hopefully something will be available in the not too distant future. But until then, I guess the full size sights will have to suffice.

Dave.

My TFOs on my Shield say MPT TG-H3
If I had a camera available, you'd see there is absolutely no "slide overhang" They're a perfect fit.

Various views of the TFO front sight, click on each for an up close view. If you look at the engravings you will see
"TG-H3". These engravings stand for Truglo and H3 is the symbol for the radioactive material Tritium. If you look at the underside of the sights, you will see the engraved model number (look above at the sight options sections for all of the model numbers). This allows you to identify which pistol the sights are designed for.

Truglo TFO Night Sight Review and Unboxing

As you can see from the pic that Truglo sent and acknowledged there is an overhang, you might stop your arrogance and Internet know it all behavior.

Put your device down and go take some meds

In fairness, I see what you're saying. BUT, mine has no overhang. Seriously. No problems. No snag. Fit perfectly. Sights dead on. Couldn't be happier. Peace out.

I deleted several posts in this thread that had descended into nothing but bickering. If members feel the need to to fight among themselves and offer nothing constructive to the discussion please feel free to keep it private via e-mail or PM's so we all don't have to listen to it.

Next question:
I've read here and there that some TruGlo TFO sight owners have posted that they have experienced a glow tube becoming dim as in illumination.
Are they replaceable?
Are there kits available?
Length of warranty?
If they are replaceable, can the average person do the switch?
Or does the whole sight platform need to be replaced?

NM. Just purchased a set of Ameriglo SW-145 sights for my Shield. Thanks to Der Biermeister for the nice review posted earlier on this thread.
