Anyone like derringers?

Funny thing; yesterday was our once a month cc pratice night at church. All day I wanted to shoot my 22Mag. and 38spec. DA derringers, 4 shots from each, never found where either one was hitting at 10 yards, at the end of the night 4 more shots from the 22Mag. at 5 yards and still have no idea where POI is. I have a Davis in 32acp that at 7 yards each barrel groups about 3" and those groups are 14" apart, this I find to be very acceptable. I also have American Derringer that appears to be a pre-Bond Arms, it is in 357mag. I got it to put the 2 barrels around 3 inches apart at 21 feet by shooting a 357-110gr Silvertip in one barrel and a 38special 158gr lead SWC NON+P in the other. If you have any type of modern made derringer take several varities of ammo, and several targets to a range where yo get to shoot close. Start at 2 or 3 yards, use seperate targets for seperate ammos, work your way back, make notes, and you'll find what the gun can do and what each barrel likes, then you can decide if the gun will do what you need it to do. I didn't do this with the 2 DA derringers, so at a time when I have a short range to myself I will. Ivan

bond arms , versatile little piece comes in 11 calibers. quick change .
good little woods gun w/ 410/45 barrel . chck out thier web site

I have one an Excam, imported in the 80's? It's a 38 spl., it shoots close to point of aim and I do carry it sometimes off side as a back up to my 638. I do have lighter loads for it.

I modified the above broken High Standard Derringer with a main spring of my own design and an improved striker spring. The result is a trigger pull that is 3 pounds less than factory and rim (primer) strikes that are more solid than original.
I like to carry my .22 magnum derringer as a back-up to my KelTec PMR30. This gives me 32 rounds of .22 magnum without reloading.
I first became impressed with the power of the .22 magnum back in the early 70s when I responded to a double shooting where both fatalities were caused from a single shot each from a HS .22 magnum derringer.

I have a High Standard 22 magnum in blue steel and carry it certain places. Loaded with hollow points.

The closest thing I have to a derringer is a Walther TPH, but I'm not allowed to carry it anymore because it is a .22. A TPH in .25 Auto is okay, but no rimfires.

Derringers are great. Improve the triggers, centerfire, and usually as a back up or just for the fun of it. Buffalo Arms 357/38 have an excellent trigger, much better than many "striker fired guns". I have 22 mag,38,357,9mm,380, 45 Col, 45/410 and wish I never got rid of my 44 mag, even though it was truly a handful. Trying to decide on a 44 spl or 44 mag? Just got the itch for another. I have never had them break or misfire. Definitely works as a GOM gun. Be Safe,

Note: 2018 I have acquired a 41 mag and 44 mag American Derringers, only thing I need would be the 45-70, but it's only a single shot.
The full house 44 mags are a bit " stiff", so 200 gr 44 special Speer gold gets the nod.

Had one in .38 Special from American Derringer a few years back. 158gr factory loads were definitely not comfortable to touch off. Went to a bunny fart 90gr handload for playtime. Never carried.

I have always felt "under-gunned" with a J-frame..

Not so with the Ranger ll .. I like the first number to be a "4"!:D

Have a Cobra CB38 stuffed with snake shot. Fits perfectly in the pocket (even basketball shorts) when in the yard. Disadvantage is the capacity as well as the trigger. Recoil is not too bad though.

DId not realize there where that many snakes in your area? You can contact Cobra and they will lighten the trigger. Just FYI Be Safe,

I have a 38Cal.Cobra Derringer I picked up somewhere.
The only thing I would use it for is to throw it at a bad Guy.
The Barrels are made of some kind of Pot Metal with Steel Sleeves inside. The Trigger has to be pulled in and down but at least the safety is so hard to work it wont go off by itself.

I really love the single-shot derringers, never had one though. I would pick one up for the right price but it might only get carried on special occasions. I'd feel like a TRUE gentleman wearing a suit with a derringer in the vest pocket. :)

There are many spring/fall jackets whose pockets are too short for even the approximately 6.5" length of a J-frame. This is where a derringer, particularly in .45, shines. Very handy at night in the parking garage of a casino where you can have your hand on a .45 in your pocket. Ask me.
