I have a CT laser coming for my Shield from Manventure Outpost ($150). I have had several from them. I especially like them on a j frame snubby. I figure if I ever have to defend myself, it'll probably be in the dark so I like the lasers.
Anyone else have a Shield with a Crimson trace laser? How are you liking it?

CT is a good laser, but I just don't like the button under the trigger guard. I can only get two fingers on the grip of my Shield, and having the top finger sticking out 1/4 inch further out than the bottom finger makes an awkward grip for me. I prefer the finger button, under the slide and in front of the trigger guard, such as on the LaserMax. The button is where my trigger finger rests, and is an easy on, if needed. Also the CT is always on, unless you take a very different grip to shut it off. The LaserMax only goes on when the button is pushed. If you don't need it on, you don't push the button, but your grip stays the same. Some will say they like the fact that all you have to do is grip the gun and the CT laser is on, you don't have to think about it. That is like saying you don't have to remember to turn the safety off. The LaserMax laser is like the safety, you practice with it and you instinctively turn it on, when needed.

I own both lasers and the specs on the lasers are identical. The CT is close to double the price of the LaserMax. They both have a one year warranty.

Let us know how you new CT laser works out. I am planning on getting one for my Shield 40.

I too have the Lasermax laser and prefer it over the Crimson Trace. I've seen and used both and went with the Lasermax, and being half the price of the Crimson Trace didn't hurt either.

I have the CT on my Shield 9MM and like it so far. For what it cost, I will say I was a little disappointed that I had to slightly modify it in order to use it. The problem is the back of the LaserGuard lightly rubs the Mag release button, causing it to not pop all the way out when putting in the Mag. Therefore, the Mag did not lock in good, causing it to accidently fall out. I found U-TUBE videos where others had the same problem.
Since you may have this problem also, the fix is really simple and only takes a minute if you have a small round file, kind of like the one used to sharpen a chain saw. Take the Laserguard off the gun and hold the two pieces together. Use the round file to remove a small amount from the back of the LaserGuard where it is quarter moon shaped. You won't need to remove much to fix.
On another subject, if you want a OWB holster, here is the one I just received yesterday. It's made for the Shield with CT laser.

I went with the LaserMax, as I shoot BUG gun class with my Shield and you can't have the laser on when doing so. With the CT, you can't avoid turning it on. Besides, when practicing with the sights, you don't wear down the battery that way. You can traing yourself to to use your trigger finger to instinctively turn on the LaserMax when drawing.

"That is like saying you don't have to remember to turn the safety off."

I have CT's on a couple of home defense handguns, and the completely instinctive operation is the key reason for going with CT. How much is your life worth if you have to use the gun at 3:00 am?

I have the CT Laserguard on my .40 Shield and love it, but, since this is my fifth CT laser, I do like their products. The primary use for my Shield is as a CCW, so I actually appreciate the fact that I don't have to consciously activate the laser, which I doubt I would do in a crisis situation. I also haven't had the problem with the mag release cited above, but perhaps I was lucky. I've posted in other threads about the Laserguard on a Shield, however, and this is the first time I've seen this mentioned. Perhaps a batch of the Laserguards had this issue.

At the range, unless I'm specifically trying to train using the laser, I put black electrician's tape over the laser to prevent it getting any expelled residue on the laser (as recommended on the CT forum). This is also an easy way not to have the laser visible when it's not allowed.

I'm glad that we have at least two laser options for our Shields, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. It sure beats a one-size-fits-all scenario!

I have the same question as the original poster. Any other comments on preferences between Crimson Trace & Laser Max?

Hmmm. I'm not the OP but here's my two cents.
I have a 9mm Shield with the Lasermax. Last night I installed a handall jr grip sleeve on my Shield, but had to remove the Lasermax, as it crams the middle finger into the trigger guard, and with the LM there's no room.
I really like the feel with that $10 sleeve and will probably leave it this way (will confirm after shooting with it). I thought the laser would be really cool..and it sure looks cool but I never got used to using it. So my opinion on the LM is "meh", but it would be that way with the CT as well (my dealer has a Shield with that installed, I didn't like the switch and the grip sleeve won't work with that either). I also have a slim pouch type holster (Uncle Mikes size 3?) that is perfect for the Shield but with the LM (or CT) it won't fit. This for me is a convenient and space-saving way to store the gun ready for quick carry.

Dumb question: How do you all shoot with a laser-equipped gun? Do you sight or just hold the gun waist level?

My point is, the lasers get in my way more than they help but maybe I've been using it wrong...
