I'm looking to get a little sister for me 686 Plus Pro and I've been looking at a Model 60 Pro Series in .357 at my LGS. I like just about everything about it, but now I'm wondering if any of you have actually fired one? How are the magnum loads in it? Are the night sights functional? How's the trigger pull? Thanks guys any info would be great

I have the old 3" Model 60 in .38 and shoot the +P in it. That's as much as I want to shoot in a 24oz gun, but can see that a well-trained and determined shooter could shoot .357, perhaps something like the somewhat reduced Speer .357 Short Barrel.

I have many J-frame 357 Magnum revolvers in both steel and scandium. Four are pictured in the group photo

I am a big fan of these little power houses. I am in the process of building a 357 Magnum Chief's Special Target in 2 1/8" right now.

They are only fed 357 magnum ammunition. While it is not fun or easy to shoot full magnum from revolvers weighing between 11.5 and 25.5 ounces, they are not meant as target guns. I do use reduced power LSWCs loaded into 357 Magnum cases for extended range sessions.

The model 60 pro is one that I own and find it to be an exceptional revolver. Astonishingly accurate for a 3" snub. This is due to the Performance Center barrel.

The night sights are absolutely functional. If they are of value to you or not totally depends on your low light vision. Not every one is the same. The ampules of tritium that are placed in the sight blade are small.

I liked the grips that ship on the 60 pro so much I bought three more sets for other J-frames that I own.

No two actions are quite the same. You say your local store has one. Will they not allow you to handle it and try the trigger for yourself?

I have the standard 3" Model 60, and my buddy has the Pro-Series version of the same gun. If I hadn't already bought the standard version, I would have bought the Pro-Series version instead. It is a beautiful little gun! Like colt_saa said, the grips are so nice on the Pro-series model 60 I bought a set for my gun as well as a set for my wife's 5-inch model 60 and 5-inch model 63. Unlike colt_saa, I believe any of the 3-inch guns are best with +P .38 Specials. Both my Model 60 and my friend's Pro-series Model 60 are, in my opinion, absolutely EVIL when shot with .357 Magnums.

Thanks for all the replies. That's why I love this forum, plenty of good information. I did get to try out the trigger but it is a brand new gun and I know they tend to loosen up quite a bit after use. Just wondered how it felt to people with actual shooting experience. I'm definitely getting more and more talked into it. I appreciate you guys but my wallet hates you

I shot my old Rossi 461, which is a 26-oz forged steel snub, with full-house defensive .357 ammo and since then I don't do .357 in anything smaller than an L-frame. IMO, the steel J-frame is perfect for .38 Special, regular or +P.

60 Pro Series

Nice guns. Go for it.

This is my revolver:

Magnum loads are stiff. A couple of cylinders are enough. .38 Special +P rounds are fairly easy on the hands. Target .38s loads are a joy.

The Trijicon night sight is non functional. At least for me. Too tiny and it was not very bright. I changed the front sight out with a Red Ramp one, from Midway.

I changed the springs out, to help with the trigger pull. I used the Wolff spring kit from Brownells. Single action is great. Double action is pretty dadgone good.

I am VERY pleased with this revolver. It's the closest weapon I've had that meets my criteria for an "all around weapon"

Yes, I too have the Model 60 Pro. I love the feel of the gun in my hand. It fits me well. No, the night sight is not really functional. It is too small and not bright enough. I load my own rounds and use a 158 grain bullet. Loads up to 1000 fps are fine. Above that it gets a little stiff to shoot. 1200 fps is doable but I wouldnt want to shoot too many of those. And, actually, I would rather shoot my 460 Magnum than full house 1500 fps 357 Magnums out of the Model 60! I love the Model 60 Pro, but I had to do a little work on it. I replaced the springs and smoothed things up a little. I had to ream the cylinders becase two were at .358 and three were at .357. This is not uncommon (unfortunately). I also have a constriction in the barrel that I am going to fire lap out. With that said, I have seven handguns and this is my concealed carry weapon.

My wife has one and has no complaints, even with magnum 125's. Magnum 158's are pretty salty. The gun is really nice, but my hands don't get along with j frame grips very well, so It is a bit small for me. I could certainly learn to live with it if I had to, but I shoot my Shield quite a bit better. SHMBO shoots the 60 better, so we don't fight over who gets what.

Anyone Own A 60 Pro Series

I just bought one, great little gun, easy to carry in big pockets. I reload and shoot a load very similar to the Speer 357 GD short barrel. The NS is very small and I am thinking of going to a red ramp like other forums members.

I have the standard model 60-16 three inch. I put a set of the longer j-frame Chrimson Trace grips on it and am about to put a red ramp and white outline sights on it. I have shot full house 158 grn .357 and they are loud but not bad. I am a large guy with large arms and strong hands and wrists though. I find it a real thrill to shoot .357 from it and the Chrimson Trace fits my big hand well.

To be honest, the action felt a bit gritty at first. I put snap caps in it and proceded to dry fire it literally 1000 times over a week. I then removed the side plate, blew it out well and used some high end gun oil and it now feels smooth as can be. Only problem I had was it would misfire with certain ammunition, Magtech and Sellier & Bellot. I put an extended firing pin in it and it is absolutely reliable now. Cant say the Pro would be similar but it might be as I suspect they share a lot of parts.

I will never understand the attraction of shooting .357 magnums in a "J" frame. I do like +P's in my 649-2 (129 grain Federal JHP's) as a defensive round, but that's as hot as I like it. Whatever floats your boat...

I own a 60 PS and love it. I will actually disagree with other forum members with regard to the night sight. Mine is plenty bright in say 20% light, the H3 insert is not smaller than semi-auto Triji's. Outside of that it appears just as any other black/black sight combination would, I prefer this combo to red ramps or fiber optic posts.

I RARELY shoot .357s out of this, it just not that pleasant. But my handload .38SPs are really accurate. Don't let the 3" barrel fool you, I hit 2.5" groups in SA and sub-4" groups in DA from 20 yards unsupported.

This was my best group yesterday from 20 yards in DA:

This was my worst group from 20 yards in DA (please ignore the 22LR "spray" on the target):
