Several of these have shown up on the local trading forum - and sold very quickly. I've never owned an SA pistol - but I like the looks of the XDs 3.3. Next door neighbor has one and swears by it - and has never had any problems with it. That said, he only has SA handguns - one for him and one for his wife - so he's not an expert like me ... ;). I've done some research and know that a certain serial number range has to be avoided. I have a Glock 43 and I'm happy with it, and I think the XDs is a bit bigger - but I fell into $400 (big money for me!!) and I want to expand my horizons ... ;) Does anyone out there in SWF-land have one - what do you think?

I collect and shoot S&W revolvers and handload for all of them. That being said I wanted a new caliber to load for and decided to get a single stack carry sized 9mm. I wanted to like the Shield, but just couldn't. Fortunately I work at an indoor range with a good rental selection so I was able to try a bunch. I went with the XDs 3.3, and couldn't be happier though there was a learning curve as it was my first semi handgun. Bought it the day after Christmas and have since put 1400+ rounds through it without a failure except for one real light handload that didn't cycle one time only.

p.s. buy a new one now and get 4 additional magazines, a holster and a mag carrier with mail-in rebate

p.p.s. if used look for a roll pin on side of grip safety, if roll pin is there it has been through the recall or is current production

I own a pair of them. I bought the first not long after the 9mm version came out. It was between the Shield and the Springfield. The XDS felt a little better in my hand and the one sided safety on the Smith was a turnoff. I'm a lefty.

I am a big fan of the gun. They are quite accurate despite the short barrel. I have seen a friend of mine take mine (and another on a different occasion) and put 3 rounds of junky ammo into 1/2" at 7 yards. I have no excuse now. :o

Well over 1k rounds of various FMJ and HP projectiles with never a bobble. They work well.

The triggers start a bit stiff but smooth out with use. Mine are at just over 6 pounds. My second one will likely beat that but I haven't shot it as much. Powder River Precision makes a trigger kit that is affordable. I haven't felt the need yet.

Coming from a G43, you'll notice the one "drawback" of the XDS. Weight. It will be 4-5 ounces heavier than the G43. (I also have a G43). On a belt, the Springer is easily carried. In a pocket, I feel the difference.

The three sizes of magazines (7,8, and 9 rounds) makes the XDS more versatile IMO. If you like single stack guns, the XDS could be an excellent choice. If you're looking at new, the 4 free magazines make them an excellent bargain.

I have owned both the Shield 9mm and an XDS9 as well as a .45
The XDS series felt better in my hand than the Shield. The .45 was the most accurate of the 3. I did not keep any of them. Try as I may, I just do not feel the love for any stryker fired gun. I am old school. Prefer revo.vets and hammer fired semi auto.

I have the XDs 3.3 45. It's the thinnest and among the lightest 45 autoloaders. That's why I chose it. Mine has been flawless out of the box.

As far as the 9mm, there's a ton of competitors. It's bigger and heavier than other subcompact offerings. Actually, it's a 1.5 ounces heavier than the 45. Fine gun I'm sure, but don't see it as a standout among the crowded field of subcompact 9mm.

springfields XDS

Finding the right gun is like buying a pair of shoes. It needs to fit your hand and the trigger finger should transition from the grip to the trigger with ease. As far as the reliability of the Springfield, I own a XD 40 for eight years and have not had a problem with over 5000 rounds. However, I purchased the Powder River trigger kit and reduced the trigger pull from 4.5 to 3.0 pounds of pull. The cost was well worth the trigger reduction. I would highly recommend the XD in any configuration. Remember, try the fit and shoot it to feel the recoil and ease of operation before you decide.
