This empty 9mm case somehow fell into my range bag. When I went to deprime and size it I noticed it wouldn't fit in the shell holder. It is a Federal case.

Interesting.....

........looks like the brass-forming machine hiccupped, and Federal quality control had both eyes closed.

Is it the same length as a regular case?

Would you believe that is the all-powerful 9mm belted magnum?.........I didnt think so.

Looks like the mysterious Federal 9mm auto rim.

......moon

case size is the same as new unfired, the primer hit looks like a raised crater, bet it was a fail to eject.
Those were some pretty funny replies! I'm still chuckling.

...bet it was a fail to eject.
I'm amazed that someone even tried to shoot it.
I'm more amazed that it fired, it doesn't look like it would have fully chambered, which makes me wonder if it was fired in a Glock or Glock clone.

Does the primer indent look like it was made with a square firing pin?

Fla Sun; Why dont you just email Federal a photo of the case, and tell them that their new 9mm Belted Magnum is really accurate, and powerful, but, you cant seem to find any more of them on the shelves. Then ask if you can order direct from them!

I'm with flat top, the "new 9mm belted magnum" has double the velocity of the 357 sig and is easier to headspace off the belt!

I wonder if Federal would trade a new box of ammo for this back?

they would blame it on a reload! i saw a factory 357 with the primer in upsidedown, yes it was a fed, but they have came a long way!

Looks like you've stumbled across one of the ever dreaded "Federal 9m/m Wasp-Waist, Coloso-mag" rounds! Used in Vietnam for harvesting water buffalo from 1000 yards, when fired from a prototype survival derringer issued only to Green Beret's.
I'd hang onto it! they are fairly scarce! ;)

If it was fired in a .40, you'd think the whole case would have fire-formed to the chamber (?)
