Anyone travel to California? What do you do with your CCW?

Don't enter Taxifornia anymore. Tell the relatives to come see me or meet me somewhere in the United States.

This solves the CC issue.

I grudgingly remove the 10 round magazine from my Glock 19 (don't get caught with a 15 rounder), clear the chamber, and put the pistol in a locked container (inaccessible to myself and anyone else in the vehicle), and spend as little time as possible on the West side of the river.

My brother in law says he's perfectly happy and content taking the risk and carrying his 15 round SR9 in California. "If I go to jail, I go to jail." We'll see how he feels after 90 days at L.A. County.

I see nothing in California code which prohibits a loaded magazine in the same locked container as a firearm, as long as it is not attached to or inserted into the firearm. Any citations to the contrary?

You are correct. The firearm must be unloaded. However, there is much confusion on this point. I even heard it misstated by the instructor of a CCW class. His response was that you won't have any trouble if they are separate.

Sometimes, I just can't avoid going to California. Sometimes I fly, sometimes I drive.

Just got back yesterday from a driving trip to the Pasadena area. I always carry a gun case for my pistol when driving to California, with one padlock.

The following is what I do when driving from Arizona.

Just before crossing the state boundary into California, I stop for fuel and fill up my tank, because fuel in CA is much more expensive. When going to San Diego area via I-8, I stop at Yuma, AZ. When taking I-10 towards L.A., I stop at Quartzsite, AZ.

While at the fuel stop, I unload my pistol, then lock it in the case and place the case in the back.

I just did the research for a guy to get a motorcycle from LA.

GET A LOCKABLE CONTAINER, and use it like you were going on an airline as long as you are in California. Don't have any loaded magazines in the locked container. Carry the ammo in a separate container from the gun.
A banned magazine is a separate offense.

In his case, he flew, put the container with the empty gun in the motorcycle storage when riding and kept the container locked until he got to AZ where he could legally load and wear the pistol. He went through airport security in LA and retrieved his locked case without problems.

sorry you are spreading bs.

you can carry a Unloaded pistol in a locked case (anything that prevents you from working the action or loading the gun).
hard sided or soft sided. just as long as no part of the gun can be touched while enclosed in said.
glove box and console are listed by law as a crime.

any very cheap key or combo lock works within the law.
and said ammo can be carried in the same container.
including loaded magazine's
.

NO ammo in the gun.
NO loaded mags in the gun.
NO mags that can hold more than 10 rounds.
if a stock or extended cap that holds more than 10 rounds, the mag must be PERMENTLY altered to prevent more then 10 rounds. before entering Ca.

said locked box can be carried in the back seat of a car. but best in the trunk. and if going to a major city. only there will the police really care.
in rural Ca (soon to be state of Jefferson) most leos just do not care.

in your motel on body carry is legal.
camping. your camp site is legal to carry. but not away from the site.
PENDING camp rules for fed, state, county, city, privet parks.

good web site to check out.
