Anyone try the KSDgrips??

Hogue uses the same kind of block w/ 2 small screws...... but also metal "clips" that fit under the frame to lock the front of the grips in place......


Will be in line for a set for my 4566... and maybe a set for my Beretta 92 Compact.

I found this photo online. I don't think it is a 3rd gen grip, but perhaps someone can figure out what holds the halves together.

I suspect the four screws that bolt the grips to the frame are what hold the halves together. If the 3rd gens used screws none of this would be an issue.
 
I think that they are actually the pins that were mentioned earlier in the thread.

Pins and glue to hold the halves together, a Hogue like block to replace the main spring cup, and then a pin to hold the grips to the frame. At least for the 3rd Gen guns.

It appears that the grips don't index on the front of the frame as do the factory grips and to a lesser extent the Hogues.

It will be interesting to see if they sit still on the frame without that.

Actually, it makes sense, now, after looking at the OP's photos. The grips are one piece and they index under the beavertail and pivot forward until the "fingers" on the backstrap line up with the holes in the grips. There is nothing to hold the grips tight in the front - no fingers as on the factory or Hogue grips so there is no need for the grips to flex or be two pieces.

The OP mentioned a couple of steel pins. I'm not sure where they are, but I'm guessing they are in the aft end and are not visible. Probably to stiffen the two pieces and to index them in position when gluing them.

From the looks of these, everything appears to be very precise and probably cut on a CNC router. I'm guessing these grips don't need to be locked in at the front as long as the wood is well seasoned.

If it is CNC work, it would open up all sorts of possabilities for customization as modifications are done on the computer. Simple to change the checkering, add logos or initials, inlays, etc. Curved or straight backstraps would be simple.
 
The grips look very nice, looking forward to getting a set for my CS9.
 
I might have been the first guy to buy some and I haven't gotten mine yet. I ordered them on the 29th so maybe any day now. I promise to post some pics just as soon as they arrive. KSD did give an estimate of some time after the 10th for delivery so he has communicated clearly about shipping time, I'm not worried.

I'd like to get some customized ones if these turn out to be a great fit. In have a personal logo I designed that I'd love to see him integrate into a set just for me.
 
the more I see these grips the better I like them;)....as soon as we get a positive report from a forum member on the stability on the frame under live fire conditions I am all over a set................those 5906 grips with the S&W medallion are killer......the medallion on the factory replica grip may be a little too much......but that's just one mans opinion........KSD...more than a few requests for a single stack 9 version...once you get your feet on the ground .....is that a possibility??

wondering what the "feel" is on the Beretta and 4506 models, i have short fingers and don't want to spend money and time to find that they are too bulky.

IMO, the only way to avoid that is to try-before-you-buy and this doesn't seem like the kind of product for which that's often an option. Grips are like holsters - expect to end up with at least one drawer full of discards....

I know you're just ramping up production and I've asked before, but do you have any plans to make grips for the 391x series of 9mm compacts?

They are pretty popular, especially on this forum, and I think you'd see some demand.

No problem..... the 4566 grips make sense wood vs Hogue Rubber.......

the 5906 grips......wood thinner than factory ????.....one of us has to be off......

I'm 99% sure the 5906 and 6906 frames are the same.....you can use a 5906 mag in a 6906.........won't be able to double check my number until tomorrow.......
 
The 6996 trip is shorter. A 5906 mag will fit and work fine, but will stick out the bottom of mag well.
