Anyone use RIMZ polymer moonclips?

I got my 625 yesterday, or it showed up at my FFL yesterday, so now i have to wait 10 days to get it... Anyway, it showed with only 2 moonclips supposed to have 5. Dont know if S&W cant count, or the selling dealer borrowed 3 and neglected to tell me??? Who steals moonclips? Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has used to RIMZ polymer clips. They look good in the demos, but the novelty will wear off quickly if they drop a round during a reload in IDPA. Any comments positive or negative from those that have tried them.

Cant wait for my gun to get out of jail on the 18th. Sure glad it takes the state 10 days to do a 5 minute job on someone who has passed the background check 6 times in the last 12 months.

I've used Rimz in only 40/10mm size. The advantage is they can be loaded without tools. One disadvantage is when really cold, it's easy to have one snap into 2 parts.

I haven't had any issue with them loosing rounds, while in metal clips that has happened a number of times.

It seems cheaper AND easier to buy either kind by the 100 and split with your buddies.

I've seen them for $2 each in smaller packs...which is crazy IMHO.

The RIMZ plastic moonclips are satisfactory for informal target practise but do not hold the cartridges securely enough for match use. Purchase the blued or SS 45 ACP moonclips from Ranch Products - the blued ones cost $35/100 the last time I ordered them. You cannot order from their website but give them a call and they will send them to you.
 
My experience with the RIMZ clips for the 625 is exactly the same as TSQUARED. The RIMZ are fine for target practice at the range, but for any kind of competition or rapid reloading you will need the steel clips.

Same here. Steel only from moonclips.com for competition.
 
I no longer compete. However, I have long enjoyed the use of RIMZ clips for range work. Eliminates the need to drag the tools out and are just simpler to use in general.

However, for competition work the others comments are spot on.

The solution is simple - use RIMZ when practicing, then steel for REAL.

That way better use is made of your time and you'll have the best of both worlds.

I agree with the above posters. I shoot rimz in my 625, and they work great without any tools or fuss. But I wouldn't want to try them in any speed or critical situation. Range use only!

Of course, my Auto rim brass finally came in, so I will be loading them up and taking a break from the rimz...
 
I used my 25-2 in USPSA matches all last year with steel moonclips and have yet to have a problem. I did buy 100 of them and all are loaded before a match so that I don't have to do AT the match although there is usually plenty of time to do so.
Gotta tell you I had a blast using it instead a Semi-Auto....The guys on my squad always enjoyed picking up MY brass...LOL..I wasn't and never will be the fastest guy on the range, but it sure is fun being one of the most deadly/accurate! One of the Grand Masters has since nicknamed me Snake Eyes because that's what most of my targets looked like to him!

There are two types of 45ACP clips made by the RIMZ guys. The RIMZ 625 was developed for range use and is intended for that purpose. I have successfully used the 625 clips in competiton and found them to be fine. The only issue is that you need to be precise with your reloads. The RIMZ 25 was designed to fit the older guns and hold the rounds for competition and carry. Regardless of what M657 may claim, if you are shooting in low temperatures where you enter the brittleness range of the 40% glass filled polymer you have a bigger problem on your hands. I have personally witnessed someone drive over a RIMZ 610 clip, the cartridges were removed and the clip sent back into the competition. They are pretty tough.
 
Thanks for all the great replys. I have already ordered some RIMZ, but I think I am going to get some steel ones and a loader as well. Thanks for the offer Rolan, I will take you up on that, and order 100 after trying out the different types.

I was worried about the RIMZ after seeing how easily they dislodge without use of a tool. Seems like asking for a round to fall out under pressure. Cant wait to start shooting this gun as its my first revolver...
 
I had a new 625 JM and have built tools to unload the moon clips out of aluminum tubing. The tool worked much better than the revolver. The 625 would consistently keyhole with reloads and factory ammo. The muzzle crown was at about a 45 degree angle to the bore. Returned to factory, came back with tool chatter marks smoothed out but no change to crown. Returned to factory and several months later with no info I got my money back from dealer. I'll be looking for an older model 25.

Last year I took the Gunsite Revolver class with my 625 using Rimz clips. I used the Rimz marked "RIMZ 25". With all the shooting and reloading I only had 1 clip break. I have been using the "RIMZ 25" model in all of my 45 moon clip guns including a 325 TR. These clips are very well made and the 25 clip is I believe thicker then the 625 clips. And these clips require no tools for loading and unloading. They dont bend like metal moons and don't require straighting. I have been very satisfied with them.

They make them for the 38 super, so I guess they would work for 9mm, but better to ask the manufacturer.
