I realize this is coming out of left field for S&W forum. I am in need of some new tires. I have been looking at the Michelin Cross Climate 2. I have been getting mixed signals from both tire dealers and the internet evaluations.

I have a 2011 Toyota Camry. I bought it with new Yokohama tires. They have been miserable from day one. They spin on any rain whatsoever, I have to slow down going around curves to maintain control.

I had a GMC Jimmy Four WD that had the same issues with original factory tires. I put Michelins on it and they weren't very much better. I was very disappointed after spending over $ 800. I am not interested in most other manufacturers. (Pirelli, Continental, Cooper, Goodyear etc)

I am willing to try Michelin again. But I have heard about problems with the Cross Climate 2. Problems include noise, poor gas mileage and prematurely wearing out. Anyone have these? I'd also be interested in hearing about other tire manufacturers experiences,

I put 1st generation cross climates on a Lexus GS400 several years ago and was well satisfied.

Xfarfuldog,

Did you consult the Tire Rack website? I've bought several sets of tires for several different vehicles in recent years, and I've found the Tire Rack reviews and ratings perhaps the most helpful I've ever seen -for ANY product. And you don't need to buy from them to utilize the website in your research. Since they sell a number of different brands, there is an absence of bias in the company's ratings -at least that I noticed.

Maybe you've tried it and didn't find it nearly as helpful -but obviously I recommend it if you haven't.

Best wishes in finding your tire solution,
Andy

As of the last 5 years I have become a Pirelli Tire aficionado. They are quiet, hold the road like your vehicle is on rails, ride excellently, and last a long long time! They are also superb in snow & rain! I have had them on my wife's Buick LaCrosse for 5 years and put them on my GMC Yukon back in March - I would HIGHLY recommend them!

They are a bit more money than your Michelin's, Continental's or Goodyear's, but IMHO worth every extra penny!

I have checked out Cross Climate 2's on several places online. Some say they are perfect while others have had the issues I mentioned. That's why I am looking for personal experiences.

I have had performance cars most of my life. I got away from them due to reliability issues with American cars. Hence a Toyota. (I truly miss them but won't go back.) I had many tire problems with those cars. Mostly traction issues in snow or rain.

Several years ago my wife got stuck in our driveway in less than 1 inch of snow. Her Trans Am had Goodyear gatorbacks. I was told by Goodyear that GT+4's would solve those problems. About a thousand dollars later and no improvement whatsoever.

I mentioned my problem with my Jimmy earlier. Don't want to spend a lot more money on Michelins for very little improvement. I appreciate everyone's input.

On my last vehicle I replaced the oem Continentals with another set of identical tires. Not sure why other than they seemed "okay," and I thought if Ford picked them for oem they must be decent. When those wore down I replaced them with Coopers after doing a lot of research. Honestly the Coopers rode and handled far better than did the Contis. No problems with either in wet weather or even on ice. Current vehicle has Michelins. They are as good as the Coopers but honestly not better. They are better than the Continentals, though.

When I was younger I always bought whatever was on sale.

I just wanted to post, as a former camry owner, how impressed I am that you're spinning your wheels on any newish tires.

I had a different model of Michelins on a 1/2 ton PU. Due to a brake shoe in the road, I only 104,000 miles on that set, but at 124,000 I traded the truck in last year and the tires looked good for another 50K (but the truck wasn't!)

On compact trucks (rangers and S-10's) I had economy tires that were bald at 15K

Not always, but sometimes, when you go first class, you get more than you pay for!

This is the exact experience of my buddy. He's had Continentals on Audis and Mercedes and they sucked every time. His wife's recently wrecked Audi had Coopers that they loved. Bought a replacement car with Contis and immediately noticed they are twice as loud as the Coopers and ride rougher.
