Hi everyone,

So somehow I managed to screw up the install of an Apex FSS...

I put the new trigger and sear in first because I was waiting for my sight pusher in the mail. After I put the new trigger in, everything seemed to function fine.

Today I received the sight pusher, so I just installed the new striker block and spring.

When I did a function test on the striker block, I realized it was failing to pop all the way back out. This allowed the striker to move forward. If I give the slide a smack with my hand, the striker block pops all the way out.

I then decided to put the slide back on to see if the gun even functions. It doesn't. I rack the slide, pull the trigger and nothing. The striker either isn't cocking, or it is failing to fire.

So what the heck did I screw up? The striker block and spring seemed like the easiest part of the whole install, but apparently not for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that candy cane loop can be tricky. got to open it up just a tad bit at a time. then install & check for function. you may have to repeat adjustment until it operates the sear

Odd. I just rewatched the Apex video on youtube and it didn't mention adjusting the loop. Thanks guys.

What about the usb failing when the slide is off? Any idea why it would be sticking? I can't imagine how I could have screwed that part up but who knows...

Makes that $50 I spent to have mine done look pretty cheap.

The difference in the trigger is amazing. My groups literally were cut in half.

I now see on their website that they refer you to the AEK install video for the loop adjustment...

There may be a burr in the striker block channel of the slide, or the striker block spring may be binding - it can be tricky to get back in correctly. I would pull the striker block back out and make sure it moves freely in the channel.

IF the striker block spring wasn't kept properly in alignment when the rear sight was re-installed, or if you forgot to put in the disk that sits on top of the spring, the striker block spring pressure will be too light, if it works at all.

Might be worth taking the sight off to double-check.

Take your time, watch the video, measure the clearance of the candy cane BEFORE you adjust. Mine ended up at .027" after final adjustment, many repeated adjustments since I didn't measure first. Like the video says, initial measurement, add a few thousandths, reassemble, try it, rinse, repeat as necessary. I spent hours trying to get back to my starting point. Again, take your time and don't get frustrated...you'll be greatly rewarded! I'm an instrumentation and controls specialist, and I was able to do it...patience and a hint of mechanical ability and you will succeed.

Why won't the striker block move freely when the slide is off?

Were you able to resolve this difficulty? I am experiencing the same problem.

I installed the poly trigger/FSS kit, and had an issue where it didn't always go bang when the trigger was pulled. Apex asked first if I used all the parts in the kit, then pointed me to the loop adjustment cited above. Took maybe 5-10 mins to adjust it, as it only required a small adjustment. No issues since then.

Last night I adjusted the loop and now everything is working. It was only a small adjustment like Sansho said.

As for the striker block. It seems to have worked itself out. Maybe the penetrating oil I used to help remove the sight was gumming things up. I think the dry firing helped loosen it up. I will keep a close eye on it for a while.
