I love my 638, 2 range trips about 160 rounds total so far. Both my.40's are locked up, so I'm thinking this is my primary EDC for a while. Both .40's bone stock, trigger doesn't bother me, (grit, pull etc.)

Trigger is nice and smooth on 638 and the 12lb pull seems easier. Do I install the apex kit or not? I'm betting my life on this so I want a dependable gun.

Though I voted "Yes", and have the Apex kit on my 638, if you're happy with your's - leave it as is.

On my 638-2 it was an improvement, but not like night-and-day. It just made a good thing a little bit better.

I put the kit in my 638 along with the extended firing pin. I ended up removing the springs but left the pin. I found smoothing the moving parts and the frame they ride on did much more to the action. It is almost as good as a PC 642 I have and that is fine with me. I did not like the trigger return with the lower weight spring so the springs are stock. Just my .02 but it works for me.

It made a big difference in my 642. Trigger pull went from about 13 lbs. to about 9 lbs. The trigger pull is smoother as well and it functions as it should.

I put a kit in my 649, along with cleaning up the insides with an arkansas stone. Man, I cannot stress to you the difference in trigger smoothness and shooting quality. It made a good trigger great.

The way I look at it is this is purely a defensive gun. It's made to save your life and to me stock springs will fire any primers without question (if there are no problems with the gun).

If you're looking for a range gun, a k frame with adjustable sights or even the old m-10 are so much more fun. Just my opinion of course and if you feel like you want the springs, by all means, give them a try.

I voted no. I have not heard anything real bad about the kits, I just don't feel the need to upgrade.

You can always get the kit and if you don't like it take the parts out and put the old parts back in.

The trigger pull on my 642 is just over 10lbs bone stock with no mods other than lots of dry firing. The trigger pull was around 14lbs when I first bought it as a frame of reference.

Hope this helps.

For a defensive weapon used at bad breath distances I think it's unnecessary. Plus god forbid you ever had to use it, you will have to explain why you modified the trigger to be easier to shoot.

Better to keep it stock but that's just my 2 cents. Your gun. Make it how you like it.
