Apex RAM in "newer" CA M&P9?

Hi,

I emailed Apex, but no response yet and I'm not very patient...

I have a "new-ish" (Test Round - Feb 2013) M&P9 (CA Version). Today, I just received the FSS and Trigger Kit that I ordered last week week and excited to get installed, but, I'm curious how I know if the Apex RAM will also work with my gun?

https://apextactical.com/store/produ...php?pid44.html

I also ordered this replacement Sear Housing to eliminate the Mag Disconnect (and the gun has no Thumb Safety).
Smith & Wesson Sear Housing Blockout Integral Lock Mag Safety S&W M&P

Can anyone tell me if the RAM will work in that replacement sear housing, or advice on how I would make that determination?

Thanks

I think I read that Apex is working on RAM, for the new sear housing. I do not think it is available yet.

SW2:

It appears that the original M&P's all came with a sear block set up to accept a Hilary Lock, even if you didn't get one with the gun.

(A "Hilary Lock" is a trigger lock. Named after you-know-who....)

The original RAM goes in the hole for the lock, and requires that your remove the Hilary Lock if you already had one.

At some point, a newer sear block, without the hole, started to get common. I'm not sure whether you can get the older ones or not at this point. The folks at Apex were working on a RAM that'd work in that version, but.... (I thought that they had one out there by now, but I wouldn't swear to it.) My understanding is that the new block accepts the thumb safety, while the older one didn't. Sure seems to be what I've got here - two sear blocks that would accept a "Hilary Lock", one that won't. The "Hilary Lock" versions won't accept the hardware to handle the thumb safety. I think S&W decided that more people wanted the thumb safety than wanted a lock, and maybe that it wouldn't be a good idea to inventory/stock two different blocks.

The original RAM is just a spring-loaded bar that helps reset the trigger bar and sear, and makes a bit of noise when doing it. Not everybody can hear the noise.... Allegedly (it's been discussed here, I'm sure) the trigger spring can break, and that renders the gun inoperative, but the RAM will step in and reset the trigger for you.

(I really don't know why those springs break. The plastic "tampon" that seems to come with the guns - it goes inside the spring - is supposed to help.)

Regards,

Midway's picture is upside down but it looks like there's hole for the Apex RAM to go into. I think, though, that you'll find the reset of the new M&P sear housing louder and more tactile than the Apex RAM.

I also read online (taken with grain of salt) that California M&P's didn't have any changes due to having to re-test to stay on the CA DOJ "roster". (But by no way confirmed, and I haven't taken the original housing out yet).

My reset in it's current form on my stock M&P9 is almost non-existent by feel or audible.

Did you prefer to order a new sear housing instead of attempting to remove the magazine disconnect from your existing one? I think I've seen a YouTube video showing how that can be done.

Yes, I saw the vids on replacing the spring, etc to remove the mag disco safety, but I preferred to spend the $20ish to have drop in replacement housing and have some replacement parts in the event I needed them (or screwed something up).

I justed removed my Housing and no port for the RAM... I don't know if the replacement housing w/o Mag disconnect safety I ordered from Midway will have it or not, and whether or not that one will fit into my frame.

If Midway sends you what is in their picture, it will accept the Apex RAM. That being said, I hope it fits in you new frame and that it comes with an ejector because the one you have won't fit in this sear housing.

I wish you success with your project.

I also ordered an Ejector...

Excellent. Please let us know what you think of the Apex RAM. I have one in my 9FS and IMO it doesn't add much by way of sound and feel. My Shield, on the other hand, has a very good reset straight out of the factory.
