I picked this up recently and would like to know what the approximate value of this fine firearm is. It is a 6" Model 28-2, that most favored of N-Frame .357s. The bluing is perfect. The turn line is extremely extremely faint, which I think indicates not only very little handling but little to zero firing.

I have the original box, matched to the gun via original label, original S&W wrapping paper, and all this fine literature that goes with it. It also has a screwdriver and a cleaning brush end in the box.

Check it out... I would very much appreciate an appraisal.By the way, I hope this makes for a good first time post, I lurk the forums but have only now decided to make a username. I have more S&W firearms than any other manufacturer in my collection.

No offense, but the value is what you paid for it. If you want to know if you got a good deal post up what you paid and we will opine. Your picture make for a great first time post, your question, wah, wah..........:)

Great gun, nice first post. While that looks about as good as an HP as you can get, we also need to know location where you bought it. CA prices lead others by $100-150+ due to gun laws :O. Here in FL, competition is brisk, and prices reflect that. Other places (IMO, S. VA, GA, TX, AL) are a bit lower. Private sales most often are a bit easier on the wallet. 6" HPs tend to be a bit less than the 4" ones. Is the "$176" card in the papers the store hang card? If so, a nice to have part of its history. If at's what you paid for it, well :) FWIW.

They keep going up all the time a 4 in goes for a little more thats a 800 gun now a days with that box and papers maybe more. I looked again I think more . You got a good one .

Congratulations.
That's a beauty.

A couple of posts suggest a value of $800 and that's probably a reasonable estimate. Maybe as low as $600 in some of the locations where bargains seem to be had and maybe as high as $1000 in California where prices appear to be higher.

A bit over a year ago I saw a similar 6" barrel Model 28-2 with a B++ finish (high polish) in similar condition (close to LNIB) sell for either $950 or $975 at a gun show in the midwest. The B++ finish was stunning.

Out of curiosity do you mind saying what you paid? It helps provide factual information for the next guy who asks.

I paid $425. ;)

I bought it here in New Mexico.

Serial range is N507xxx

A very nice find! You got what I call "a warm and fuzzy" buy with that one. Enjoy your new six-gun!

You got a great deal. If you plan to shoot it, you may find the 6" barrel is a big plus, despite the fact that the 4" version seems to sell for more.

I wish I could find them at that price and I live in Georgia. . .home of low prices. I pick them up for $365 a lot around here, but not with a box or paperwork, and not a 99% gun either. That's about the nicest one I've seen lately.

I live in the land of high prices TEXAS . I'd be all fuzzy if I could find one for that price.Good job 357.

I'd be looking over my shoulder because you nearly stole it at that price.[/QUOTE

Nothing nearly about it, he stole it at that price. I still say the value is what you paid for it, until yo sell it and more than double your money and then at that time it's value will be different to you.

Also bought a 65-70% cond Colt Agent for $300 today. Not really a steal but I am gonna hang onto it... 6rd small frame revolvers are hard to find in my AO.
