let me rephrase....

how much clp? Just a thin coating, dripping, or somewhere in between?

If my AR sits for a great length of time, I will pull the BCG out and oil it before going to the range. You do not have to flood it with oil just a light amount will do the job. At least that works for me. Forgot I use Mobil 1 for the lubricant but you will get different opinions on that one.

Welcome to the Forum.

You're probably going to get all three as answers to your question and I'm really not qualified to give you definitive instruction. For the record though, I'm a minimalist, so just above a thin coat for me.

Just run my first rounds through my sport yesterday.Thin coat for me, a drop or two on a qtip run that in the bearing surfaces, two grooves on bottom and either side of gas key.

P220,

You'll get answers running from hose it down wet to light coat. I've run my BCG dripping wet to minimalist light wipe down. I've used greases such as TW-25 to red bearing grease. I've used oils claimed to come from exotic sources with mythical properties, to Mobil1 synthetic.

My preference is to spray the bolt and the carrier rails with CLP. I'll then wipe off the excess. It's been my experience that running a bolt dripping wet results in a longer post-range cleaning. The excess lube attracts fouling and slings around. Grease was good, but was a pain to clean.

Light coat does the trick, still attracts some crud, but cleaning is easier.

Thanks to all. I tend to be a minimalist, but I wanted some real life experience to go on. I know where to go from here now.

And thanks for the welcomes

P220,

I assume it's in reference to a Sig P220? I have a West German P220. It had seen better days and was not in great cosmetic shape when I got it. It's at the LGS getting a burnt-bronze Cerakote job. I have the parts all ready to refurbish the gun and a short reset trigger.

I have a P220 compact. Not the carry. I had a P220 Elite Dark that was fantastic. But I like the compact. Got it used. Sent it to Sig for their refurb program. $140, full inspection, new springs where indicated, Sig nights installed. While it was there, I had them do the SRT trigger and a full trigger job as well. Now it's a fantastic pistol and allowed me to confidently sell my Dark Elite. I used the funds to get the AR 15 Sport. Totally happy with my decision.

When you get the new parts in your Sig, it will be a gun you'll never sell. When it's done, tell me what you think.

I run mine either with a little CLP or I'll have so much CLP that it takes a few rounds to blow it all off. When I run a lot, you don't want to be next to me or you're getting CLP splattered all over your range glasses.

And on a side note, I sent my P226 for the Sig Service Plan and got it cleaned, new spring and new night sights. Best money I've ever spent on it. 1997 West German police trade in.

spray a little CLP on your fingers and rub down the entire BCG, bolt, cam pin etc. I don't lube up the firing pin but some people do. Pretty much the only thing I lube after complete cleaning.
