Are 15 round Glock Magazines Legal In California?

Are 15 round Glock magazines legal in the state of California, outside of any local city laws? Of course assuming all other carry laws are obeyed.

I'm in Oregon on the border with California. I assume my AR-15 is not legal and take it out of the truck when passing through California.

However I'm a retired Oregon police officer and would like a handgun with more than 5 or 10 rounds (J-Frame/Glock 26).

When I travel to Hawaii I'm limited to 10 rounds regardless of HR218, and was wondering about California. We'll just be out in the sticks rafting and camping so no city laws should come into play.

Don't know if it's true but the last time I was there a few years ago, I showed a gun shop employees one of my guns with a 17 round magazine. He said I was guilty of bringing a high cap magazine into the state.

Quite sure that you are limited to a ten round magazine.

May not be an issue for retired California LEOs, as they may have acquired the magazines while on the job. On the other hand, it may not work for retired LE from other states. My best advise is to call the California DOJ and ask them. I don't know that you'd have any problems with active duty LE out there, but there's always the guy who'd write a ticket to his grandmother just to be the star. Having to go out and buy some ten round magazines is a lot easier in the long haul than having something bad happen and you be the one getting in trouble for something otherwise frivolous and trivial.

My understanding of HR218 is that it states that you are not subject to any state's ccw laws. It sounds like they may be applying a technicality in Hawaii. If the magazines are completely illegal in CA, then technically they may be able to say no. If it says you can't carry it, then you're fine.

You're kidding me........... California has outlawed Peperoni on Pizza and you now need a carry permit for a baseball bat over 4" in length.

I believe, because of an article I read on this very subject, that you are required to follow the current state law of the state you are in. While you are retired LE you are back to citizen status and are not exempt from , at the least, California law. I may be wrong.
