Are any S&W revolvers currently made w/o locks?

As mentioned, above, there are certain SKUs of models 442, 642, and the 640 Pro still being made without the internal locks.

The frames should/will have the "-1" numbering, e.g., "640-1".

Should a recent model S&W revolver, WITH A LOCK, end up being bought, do consider one of those plug kits on the market. Installing such a kit will involve some basic hand-tools (tools made for firearms work, preferred); ability to follow directions; some experience taking apart S&W revolvers can help; the chance of losing a small part or two (control of one's work area is important); and plan on ~$44/kit, delivered.

So what if we did a forum member buy of say 10,000 Model 19's with no lock do you think they would make them for us?

It's an interesting idea. More realistically, I've often wondered if a distributor could have a batch of no-lock guns produced, since the stupid agreement is obviously dead as a doornail, legally speaking.

I always wondered why some of the enclosed hammer models could be made without the lock. I skimmed over the agreement that shocker posted, and apparently DAO revolvers are considered safe because they are DAO and, as per the agreement, do not need a lock. SA/DA revolvers on the other hand need the lock, as per the agreement, because they are capable of single action. I did not know this before.

I wonder if S&W could make some DAO revolvers that are traditionally SA/DA...without the lock? Seems like this would satisfy the agreement. You could just replace parts to make it DA/SA again if you wanted.

Part 1c of the agreement precludes that.
They could, and should, relocate the lock mechanism( a new one actually)under the grip thereby returning the profile of the guns to pre 2000 design, less elongated in the grip area.
That would mean a redesign of the IL, but...... with a little better QC and getting back to the old profile, they would be back in business selling tons of revolvers again.

Thanks for posting the link to the March 2000 S&W Settlement Agreement. I'd not known of this agreement, previously, and just never thought to look for or research the matter. I'm disappointed S&W fell for/caved to this agreement.

Item 1.c. seems to indicate ALL HANDGUNS (not just SA/DA guns) shall have an internal locking device. I didn't see any words exempting S&W from the specific models it now has which do not have the internal locks. Perhaps there was some later interpretations, as others have mentioned, regarding the DA-only models. I'm glad S&W has, at least, made those non-internal-lock models.

I also didn't see this agreement having any ending-date, which I found disappointing. I'm not astute enough to have an opinion as to the agreement's legalities. Apparently, S&W is continuing to abide with its agreement and the internal locks to the disappointment of many.

3.Additional standard for revolvers. Each revolver make and model must pass a safety test. Each make and model must have a safety feature which automatically (for a double action revolver) or by manual operation (for a single action revolver) causes the hammer to retract to a point where the firing pin does not rest upon the primer of the cartridge. The safety device must withstand the impact of a weight equal to the weight of the revolver dropping from a distance of 1 meter in a line parallel to the barrel upon the rear of the hammer spur, a total of 5 times.

I took this to mean that DAO revolvers do not require the lock. I could have misinterpreted it though.

While I am a bit late to this conversation, I figured it would be nice to include a picture of a 642 without a lock, so the OP (and others) can see a photo of one. I'm not sure of the exact date of production, but I purchased it new last summer.
