The company has only offered the lifetime warrenty since 1990 as noted. They have, however, treated folks very well over the years. Unfortunately in the last couple of years some folks have reported that they've been charged for warranty work. It seems to be hit and miss, and it probably comes down to what is wrong and how much time/effort goes into repair. One thing for sure, there is a distinct lack of older parts available - barrels & cylinders for discontinued models, which effect what they can do these days.
Best to call them and talk to a customer service agent about what's wrong and get them to advise accordingly. (800-331-0852)
