First, moderator, if this is the wrong place for this, please move it, as it is not intentional. I keep seeing these guns with threaded barrels, and the only reason that I can think of is a silencer. There is a .22 semi-auto on one of the auction sites with a threaded barrel, and although I own a GLOCK 19, it is the only semi-auto that I own, and am not familiar with what is & isn't legal or available for semi-autos. Just curious......

In most states suppressors are legal to own provided you fill out a BATFE Form 4 and pay a $200 fee for each suppressor you own. I believe Virginia allows its citizens to own them. Check your local laws to be sure they are legal to own in your state or county.

Here in Washington they became legal to own just last year and a good friend lets me shoot his AAC Element on his 22 long rifle pistols and rifles that are threaded. You must have a person that can own a silencer, in your will, that it can be passed on to when you die and this must be done by an attorney. There are ones that specialize on this here in Washington state.

Supressors have always been legal to own in WA. It was just last year they became legal to shoot.
I would check the laws for myself regrading the reat of his post.

Yes suppressors (silencers) are legal. You can buy a threaded barrel for your Glock if you wish.

If you are thinking of getting into suppressors, my advice is to start with rimfire. First, they cost the least ($500 including the stamp), and second, you can buy a rifle with a threaded barrel, so the suppressor will work on a handgun and a rifle.

My first jump into suppressors was for my 5.56 AR-15. It isn't quiet like on TV. You can't slow a 5.56 down enough to make it quiet. The suppressor does allow you to shoot without hearing protection.

The S&W M&P22 has a threaded barrel.

You are correct about that. I mis-stated and I knew several individuals that had cans but could not shoot them until the new law was passed.
