Hi,

Are there any no-lock 642's or 442's available anywhere these days?

Thanks,

That's a ripoff. It's a $400, tops, gun. I got my 642 no-lock in Dec. for $359 with the $30 S&W rebate.

Ofcourse it's a ripoff, they know a non-ILS revolver is in high demand and they've priced it that way... I hope Smith is paying attention to the demand of the non-ILS guns and perhaps gets a clue, but I won't hold my breath...

Look at what Smith has done to all the prices. 442/642/637 are now suggested at $600 and the 640 is up to $799. Where's the top?

I just got back from a 640-1(no-lock), 357, purchase that my son made. $500, included a factory trigger job, laser engraving, front sight insert all done at S&W. Gun is used but in excellent condition. It will be a long time 'til I see something like this again.

I just bought this 442 at the Owatonna, MN Cabela's this afternoon on sale for $429.99 +Tx.

I bought a 442 at Cabelas in Fort Worth 3 weeks ago. Bought a 642 with ILS today. No 442's were in stock.

I saw three today at the Del Mar Gun Show (San Diego, CA.). One has the IL and two did not. The ones without the IL were $498 and $494. I bought the cheaper one.

I bought my 642 no IL from a guy on GB who had sold the last two he had. I checked today and now he has at least another one. His price has gone up though. They are around, and have been shipped from S&W this year.

Good luck.

Take it easy-n-at,
Jeff

First off, Lipsey's only sells to FFL holders. The price shown to someone who doesn't have an account with them is the manufacturers suggested retail price, more commonly known as an MSRP. So they aren't ripping anyone off. Second, the dealers they sell to set the actual sales price to the private customer. And third, they have a catalog number listed and they do not have any in stock. No wholesale firearms distributors have these on hand anymore. What is on the market is what dealers or sellers have in circulation.

My dealer has them if you want it shipped to you. I am in Ohio, I was just there today and he had 442/642 w/ & w/out lock in stock. $419.00 plus shipping to your ffl and they us USPS.... LMK if I can help...

I am interested in getting a no-lock 642. Are they still out there? I live in Northeastern IL, and would prefer to buy locally, but I would consider doing a remote purchase.

Can I place an order at a local dealer for it, and wait it out? Not likely, I suspect...

That sounds like a great deal and I wish I'd read this thread earlier as I just bought a NIL 642 on GB for $445. A bit high but I really wanted one for warm weather pocket carry and my local shops want $485-$499 for IL 642s. So, they are relatively rare items and, with high demand, prices will inevitably climb.

As long as Smith continues to make all their handguns with internal locks, I think the prices of non-ILS guns will continue to rise. Unless people stop buying, like gasoline prices, but I can't see that happening for the next four years anyway. I was at the Cabelas in Hamburg, PA recently, but was not shopping for a J-Frame, so I'm really not sure what they had in stock. It does sound like some other forum members did have luck at their local Cabelas, however.

Ahh. Rip off prices for "no lock" guns. How many have I bought. Let me count 1,2.... My only consolation is I have them and you don't. My problem seems to be that when I want one, none are available except at obscenr prices. Five minutes after I buy one, 2 or more people come on here and have some at most reasonable prices. Go figure.

Mr. NH DUDE, I sent you an email reference your local gunshop. Please let me know the name of your local sun shop. Thanks

Just to clarify, my local shop does not have no-locks, only J-frames with internal locks. Eagle1* is the person whose gun shop does have the no-lock 642s and 442s. Happy hunting!

Mr. NHDUDE sorry I'm blind. Mr Eagle1* can you tell me the name and phone number of your gunshop please? Thanks

I just picked up a 442 no lock from Cabelas in LaVista Nebraska an hour ago. They had one on display and brought out a new one from the back room. Got a voucher from them yesterday for $100 off a purchase of $500 or more. M442 $449.99, two canister's of H110 $18.99 each, one box of Speer .357 personal defense $24.99, sales tax $ 35.90 total $548.86. $100.00 off, Cabelas voucher; $41.40 off, Cabelas club points, total 407.40. Nice day for me in Nebraska.

un-freaking beleiveable these are PRK legal. my buddys shop has 2 442 NIL at about $499 i think.
i paid $350 ten years ago for my 442-1.
If i dint have one, i'd consider buying one just to put up. If i could get some of the pink hogue grips, my wife said she even shoot it.

I used to keep it in my pocket in college when working nites at 7-11, owner was a former cop and packed a 2 inch 15 when he was on nite shift. He told me he didnt give rip about corporate policy forbidding them. he said hed rather see me alive and have 7-11 make him fire me from a 10$ hour job then killed in the walk in fridge

a NIL 60 is next on my list of J frames.
