Are Things Returning Around - Maybe?

In the Democrat Republic of California things are better than they were, but still not normal. A very nice selection of rifles and handguns at Turners Fountain Valley this Friday, and they even had some .45, 40S&W, and some other caliber ammo on the shelves at pre-Obama prices. But rimfire ammo is still scarce and guns are clearly selling faster than used to be the case.

I wish I could say things were returning to normal in Connecticut. A few LGS have closed shop all together because of Connecticuts new laws.

I'd hope that the NRA and others would challenge some of those awful laws. Simply stupid. Don

Black rifles and plastic autos abound. Prices seem to be back to about where they were before the hysteria set in. Ammo is still iffy; and, as others have noted, 22LR is hard to find at reasonable prices. 45ACP, 40S&W, 357/38 are generally available and prices are coming back to normal. Primers, bullets and powder are available but not necessarily in all the brands and types one might want. I think we'll see the shelves full again soon. Then we should see gun show prices drop as those first time buyers wonder why they bought what they did and try to turn those purchases in to cash.

Here primers are $40/1000 but at least we have some. No powder, no bullets, no 22, no 9 mm. They must have road blocks set up so none of this stuff is getting in. ;)

The LGS I go to the most is also has many more guns on display than a couple months ago.

Plus, last week, for the first time in months they had some handgun ammo on the self-service shelves where you could take as much as you wanted.

This is a change because for the last 6 months you needed to go ask the gun counter guys to get give you ammo from behind the counter. And they would tell you that you could have 2 or 3 boxes or sometime only one.

With the exception of Buffalo Bore my normal on line sources for 38/375 ammo are still dry.
I have more than enough ammo, but it's nice to know I can always order more as the spirit moves.

I'm in the "better but not normal" crowd.

Last Friday I order 1k 125 gr LFN in .357 and 1k 147 LFN in .356 from Missouri Bullets and my order was on my doorstep Tuesday.

But some internet supplies still have next to nothing to offer.

Seems that powder is the hardest thing to come by here (not counting .22LR ammo). I'm real low on my favorite powders and have been forced to experiment with some "new" ones...on the plus side, I guess maybe I'll discover some new favorites!

A guy wearing an Academy shirt walked into the locker room when I was at the gym yesterday. Asked him about .22LR ammo. He said they're getting it in and it sells out in 30 min. Sad but even worse, they break down bricks into individual 50 rd boxes and limit the numbers you buy.

Local Walmart is doing the same thing, they get a brick and break it and you can buy 3 50rd boxes. Sales guy said they got some 375 rd boxes and sold them as is but limited it to one per customer. Don

Still no .22 ammo to speak of here in KY. There was some at a recent gun show bu the guy wanted $70 for a 325 bulk pack.Fortunately I have a good supply. I'm not inclined to buy the first boxes that return to the shelves anyway...they are cranking the stuff out so fast now that I'm hesitant to trust their QC compared to my stash that was produced during saner times.

It is hit or miss here in northern Georgia. Some stores still look the same as they did in January, and some seem to have mostly recovered. It appears that prices are generally close to their pre-panic levels, but they still seem to be a little higher than they were this time a year ago. Reloading components still seem to be tough to find, but that is getting better for powders and especially primers. Bullets and brass are hard to locate at local stores. Fortunately, I can order those online without worrying about HAZMAT charges.

Guns or ammo? IMO, S&W is not pumping anything more than than J frames for the carry market right now.

Ammo still the same around here, though I don't go much out of my looking for it. .22 lr is really the only thing I care about.

I would really like to find some Speer or Hornady .357 LSWC or even LSWCHP, but good with those.

Stopped at the local Cabelas on the way home from church today and FOUND you could buy 1 brick of Remington 22 thunderbolt for $19.95 A box of 50 -32 cal auto (PPU)for $17.00 no limit on centerfire ammo 1 box limit on 22 cal. they had lots of 40,-45, 223 and some 357, no 38 special to be had .They also had 25 auto and 32 S&W long wadcutters on the shelf.Funny thing the 2 CASES of 22's never made it to the display shelves

Here in the Piney Woods of east Texas, things are getting better but still no .22 LR bricks to be had, but I have not really been looking so some may well have come and gone without me knowing about them. Academy is running a sale on shot gun shells, and .357 Magnum ammo, and that has to be a positive sign. Wal-Mart is still very low on most ammo. So in this area the signs are getting more and more positive, but still not back to normal yet.

Cannot find .22RF in the Vegas valley (One LGS had 50rd boxes of .22LR at $11.95 each...). .223/5.56 sometimes available: best $: 1,000 rds of WW at $600. No 9mm to speak of, little .40, .357 or .44M, some .38 burn-up ball and .45ACP. Much 12 ga. buck and slugs, both US and Spanish Rio/Royal mfg. Some SG hunting loads and some CF hunting loads: .270, '06, 30-30. LGSs seem to have more than Walmart. Far from good here.

Things are looking much better around here in Utah. LGS had not only just about every single 686 and 686+ in every barrel size, but they also told me they got 5-6 of each one!

Not only that, but, lots of places have taken the ammo per person restrictions off and have moved ammo back to the main floor... instead of having to put them behind a counter.

I have finally decided that I need to start reloading, so I have been saving my brass for a while in preparation. The only problem is every time I get a few hundred $ together I end up going into a gun shop and walk out with another gun...

There are some indications that demand is easing somewhat. However, after the last rush, we never really fully recovered. This one was much worse. Personally, I think it will take several years to get all ammunition and reloading components back on the shelves at a reasonable price. It they make another attempt at gun control in the Senate, then all bets are off.
