Are you a "gun slut"?

When I joined the Army in 1988 it was generally assumed that if I ever had to fight I was going to be fighting somebody carrying an AK-47.

Oddly enough, the Army never taught me how to shoot an AK-47. I don't even know where the magazine release or the safety is on an AK-47 I don't know even know if there is a safety on an AK-47.

You would think they would have at least given us a week of familiarization
That is the Generals fault. One group thinks every soldier should know how to shoot a rifle. The other group thinks we need to specialize and a cook, clerk, mechanic and others don’t need to know how to shoot. It is wasting ammo and that ammo can be used for Special Operations.

Birds of a feather. I bought an original officer's model the year they came out, 1982 I think …
1985. I got a first year production and it was popular with cops. Six of us got them and three of us had ones that would not feed JHP ammunition including me. I eventually went back to my 1965 Colt Lightweight Commander.

And that, going back to something I posted somewhere is also true of the first thing cut in defunding the police is, training. Time for training
is cut, ammunition is cut, advanced schools are cut. Even attendance at free schools ( federal-state ) is cut, too many hours lost.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: LOL- that's' what I was thinking! I can't even imagine my 19 in my front pocket!!
Believe it or not you can fit a Glock 19 in the front pocket of those stupid Royal Robins 5.11 pants.

There won't be any doubt that there's something in that pocket but you might not necessarily know it's a gun

I have 2 gun safe full of guns i have fondled intimately on occasion. Some way more then other. Only a few find their way into my pants. So that is my comfort zone!

I would like to be the “one gun/one holster” guy but that is not practical for me. My preferred carry pistol is a CCO format 1911 (Officer frame with 4” barrel) in 9x23 Winchester. I prefer to carry it OWB; however, most of the time it’s IWB or shoulder holster. Yes, a shoulder holster is a radically different way to carry but Maine winters with multiple layers on and riding in a side-by-side a lot make it useful.

When it’s too hot to hide the 1911 or I might need to discretely transition from pocket carry to briefcase or stowage in truck, an M&P 340 works. I started pocket carrying a 642 about 25 years ago. Need to get back in the habit of shooting the J-frame at least once a month though.

Back to the shoulder holster for a minute - it’s new to me and I’m still working out how best to use it. One thing that bothers me is having spare magazines in a very different location. I’m thinking about carrying the spare left side 9:00 like usual and just forgetting the shoulder mag carrier. Unfortunately, I’d need a tie down for the right side unless I carry 2 loaded magazines with no intention of using them.

IIRC they made 1,000 in 1984, all with the rat tail grip, then in late 84 or early 85 they hit the market. Mine was early, after the first 1,000. I had been carrying the commander size acp for many years in the AFOSI so it was naturally easy to fire for me.

When I left active duty I did not go back into law enforcement immediately so the little gun was an EDC. I did not carry it in law enforcement later but it became a fixture on my hip on every trip to the Rocky mountain and other states while hunting. Small, and not noticeable on the hip, it was always there.

Mine fed and still feeds everything. The flying ashtray was popular and I reloaded many. I never had a failure with the little officers model, ever, not even one.

I carry bigger more powerful rounds these days, 10mm and 400 Corbon on those hunts, but the little Officer's Model remains a great little gun for carry against human preditors.

I need to get it out and carry for a while, just for the old times sake.

I am not aware of any retired military who actually served in harms way who wears, 5.11 pants. The are more for the young wanna bees who never have and never will be in harms way. We see those guys on range days, they would not be caught dead at the range without them, and of course their genuine, pilot glasses.

That said, if the wardrobe makes them feel tacticool, fine by me. I will just wear my blue jeans and Bermuda shorts and blend with the crowd. And my little Glock 43 in the pocket is never to be seen unless I want it to be.

I wore them at work. I worked at a Propane storage facility and my uniform had to be all cotton. My employer issued them and they lasted about 6 months.

I wasn't particularly impressed with them. The back pockets went halfway down my legs and if there was anything in them it was a pain in the ass to sit down.

The only thing I liked was the strap because it gave me a place for the site keys.

What do you guys do with those pants that have all the pockets? I've not needed them as I travel very light with : money clip that also holds a credit card and insurance card, car key, tiny Leatherman pocket knife with one blade, and Chap Stick.

Is there some part of "I wore them because they were issued to me" that's tripping you up?

I currently wear Wrangler cargo pants. Actually I'm currently wearing gym shorts and a t-shirt.

I don't care anything in my back pockets because it's hard on your spine.

In my left front pocket I carry a flashlight and a pocket knife. In my right front pocket I carry OC spray and my wallet.

In the phone pocket .....wait for it..... I carry my phone. That's the main reason I bought those pants because when I was working it made it easy to keep track of my phone and the company phone.

In the cargo pocket I carry a small IFAK and a handkerchief. I started carrying an IFAK when they put me and my wife on blood thinners.

Anything else you need to know?

I apologize for asking.

I always thought it meant terrorists.

Or maybe

That was oddly specific.

Our leadership didn't want to show you something you might like better than US issue. Plenty did/do appreciate them.
Yes they do have a safety - same lever that WAS the selector switch. Whats not to like about a rifle that will work better than any other in worst conditions ? They work even better well taken care of. I've had a Romanian SAR -1 for 20 years. without one hiccup. I liked mine so much I bought a Romaniam 7.62X54R PSL rifle. I'm very satisfied & have No desire for an AR. Just MY $.2 C.
