That's just - wrong.

If I write something to put in a book, or on the internet, I'm writing it for the world to read.

If I write a letter to my sweetheart, it is for her eyes, and her eyes alone. Ain't nobody else's damn business.

That woman publishing her mama and daddy's love letters? She ain't got no couth.

My "love letters" would read something like this:

May 01 -"Dearest...........,
I miss you so very much since I sent you off to Smith and Wesson to have your_______repaired. I sit here, all alone, feeling so helpless. I can't even visit my LGS for fear you will think I am cheating. My fear is that this will become unbearable and I will have to go."

May 15 - "Dearest.........,
I called Smith and Wesson today for an update. They have no news for me. I worry that you are not well at all and perhaps beyond repair. I appreciate them sparing my feelings by not just telling me, but the not-knowing is worse I think."

May 30 - "Dearest......,
Called again today and it is not looking good. In your current condition, I should probably not tell you this, but I have no choice, my conscience will not allow me to keep this inside...........I visited my LGS today....I know, I know, I shouldn't have. I promise, I just looked around, I didn't touch ANYTHING. I am hopeful you will be back soon, but I worry I may never see you again."

I was about to reply in the affirmative, before closing up my laptop, here near the dumpster in the parking lot of a local motel with free wi-fi, and pack it up with my other worldly possessions in my grocery cart, and repair to my nest of appliance boxes under a nearby bridge, and try to write some more poetry in the sickly light cast by sodium-vapor lamps, when I re-read your OP, and discovered to my chagrin, that you were asking about hopeless, romantics, not homeless romantics. I count myself among the latter, not the former, as there is, still, some small glimmer of hope for those of us with whimsical dreams...
 
Well, some would say I am hopeless anyway.

I told my wife when we first met, don't think I am going to sit through any of those romantic comedies as they are all fanciful at the least. I believe that when dating the man and woman should meet each other wearing pajamas, not having shaved or showered for a couple of days so that people can see each other as they really look.

I never wrote any letters to my wife, but I cannot imagine even publishing her picture without her permission. I mean, she would hate for the world to know anything about those Dutch ovens I gave her after eating beans............oops.
 
Yeah, I'm a hopeless romantic. I wrote fan fiction about a defunct TV show largely because I had a crush on one of the female stars. (But also because I needed to teach myself to write good fiction for later commercial reasons.)

And I am definitely a HOPELESS romantic if I fantasize about a model or Playmate. I'd need more money than I have to date one, and my favorites keep getting married...to other men. But I've met a few and had fun talking with them.

You know who else is a romantic? Hugh Hefner. I saw today on the Net that he just bought his wife Crystal a $5 million home to live in after he dies. The Hefners will still live in the Mansion for now, but he leases it from the parent foundation; doesn't own it. And he wants Crystal to have her own secure place after he dies. The guy has shown his sentimental side for years, although he ran around on a prior lady or two. I really think he's in love with love, at least if it doesn't get in the way of what he wants at a given time.

I presume that Hef thinks that Crystal may outlive him partly because he is about 60 years her elder...87 vs.27. ;)
There is speculation that Crystal's mother may occupy the new home until Crystal needs it.

But buying it for her is a romantic gesture.
 
I would have to say I am a hopeless romantic. I remember her birthday and our anniversary and the like; but what my wife talks about the most are the little things, bringing her a coffee, helping with the dishes, folding laundry, opening the car door for her. I send her cards just to let her know I think about her.
 
How do you define "romantic"? If it merely signifies a tendency to mushy or tender feelings, I'm not much of a romantic. If it means thinking in terms of idealized outcomes, then maybe. Its this latter tendency that has led me to cynicism in my later years. The world seldom lives up to the idealized version in my head.

I once gave a long time girlfriend a birthday card with a note "I owe you $20" in it. I never made good on the note, and she eventually found a "nice guy" and dumped me. So I saved $20.

I once took the lovely Missus P&R Fan to a, believe it or not, Barry Manilow concert. That, gentlemen, is the ULTIMATE in romance. Unfortunately, she was about 10 months pregnant, or it woulda been a MEMORABLE night.;)

I ain't afraid to show my romantic side, and you shouldn't be either.

I've never been a hopeless romantic. However, I an a very hopeful romantic. Monday was our 35th Ann. and I still do the whole "wooing" thing. The second year we were dating, she was an hour and a half out of town as a girls camp counselor. We got about 2 rounds of letters in a week, they may or may not still exist. If they do our kids and grand kids might find the interesting more for info on the times than any romantic catch phrases (there is only so many x's and o's you can write). But I agree, family communications are personal and are not for publication. These letters are the same as the letters my friends wrote from the Army or my sons wrote home from Ft. Benning and Paris Island, Which are like the letters my folks got from the brothers and buddies during Korea. Pretty much seen one seen 'em all! ( It is of historic note that 3 different generations all called Paris Island a "Flea infested sand bar") The exception to this would be letters (non-romantic) from combat: 18 letters to my Mom & Dad from a school friend all started "Thank God I'm still alive" (He had a run in with the Chinese).
