I'm not and I don't know why. Just sore of makes me nervous in some odd way I guess. Don't want the EMT's cutting my heart out before I get to the hospital thinking I'm not going to make it!!!

Really though, it is a good thing and I remember when they first started putting it on your drivers license. I'd sure be glad if I needed a kidney and someone died in a car crash and I won his or hers body parts. I wonder though just how much they would take off your body. Is it just the main organs or do they take eyeballs, arms, ears, or......never mind.

I'm not either. Everytime I think about it, "Not Yet Dead" from Spamalot goes through my head. It's not a decision I'd want a stranger in a strange town to make for me if I had checked the block on the driver's license.

Hi:
I have been a Organ Donor for as long as this has been going on.
If when I go "10-7" any of my body parts that can be used, then use them.
When I had My "On Duty" incident and had "bled out" people I didn't know, along with neighbors, friends and LEOs from surrounding Agencies were lined up to donate blood. A State Facility requested a "Blood Mobile" where all shifts could donate. If My body parts can be used to help someone, I all for it.

IIRC the family can specify how much (or what) can be used.

It can be as simple as nothing but the corneas to major organs or a pretty extensive donation which would include skin, long bones (femur and humerus)and possibly some other parts for research.

If my parts are usable, they are welcome to them. The rest of me will be cremated and given the the Navy to toss into the Pacific Ocean.

When I'm done let them have at it
then give it to the college for up and coming doctors to practice on
I am a donor
A friend of mine can see because of a donor
I'm for it all the way

Yes.
I hope they don't go to a Democrat.

If you are a donor, please let all of your family know of your wishes. I have seen more than one person who wanted to be a donor have his parts not used because of the family.

I don't care what your DL says, or if you have donor tattooed on your chest, if the family says no, it won't happen. Often for the major organs, time is critical.

I cannot imagine any reason for not being a donor. Your organs cannot/will not be harvested until you are dead (get over the urban legends). You literally can give the "gift of life" to another through this program. So many people out there are dying for the lack of a donor organ. What if one of those folks was a loved one, about to die because others wouldn't donate? I suspect that might just change your opinion, at least I hope so.

In a recent thread we discussed wills and trusts. Organ donation can (and should), be addressed here as well. If you ever get to speak to an organ recipient or one of their loved ones you will find out first hand just how important it is to donate. I'll get off the soapbox now but please, think about it.

Iam! I have a donor bone grafe in my neck. I was burned 60% in my younger days was lucky I had un injured skin of my own for the skin grafes.

Yep, have been for years. I'm not looking forward to the day I become a donor, but I know that the potential positive impact is huge. Donations include the heart, intestines, kidneys, lungs, liver, pancreas, skin, bones, tendons, corneas, heart valves, femoral veins, great saphenous veins, small saphenous veins, pericardium, and the sclera.
If you haven't already done so, sign up. And be sure to let your family know your wishes.
Best,
Jack

I just check on my license, it says I am a donor. (j/k)

My wife, brothers, sisters, my dad all know I am a donor. Just not quite yet.

Not me. I'm going to foot the bill to for cryo freeze and let the apes revive me one day.

Do you really think the apes will really get that hungry? (o;

I am, I think. THe box is checked and my family knows my wishes.

That being said I used to be a blood donor. Some years ago, when I got my 20 gallon pin, the gal was reading my list of medications and very politely thanked me for my time, effort and trouble and also told me that I was done giving. I'm not really sure of what on the list they don't like.

I guess I had better check with those in the know whether there is anything medically besides being busted all to Hell that might disqualify me as a donor.

We have always joked that the poor SOB that gets my parts is getting the short end of the stick and must REALLY be in bad shape.

I think everybody in the family is a donor. Dad had a heart valve that lasted 17 years from a donor and brother number 2 has one of brother number #4s kidneys.

I am an organ donor, blood donor, and I am not going to be buried wearing a lot of valuable jewelry. I can't imagine letting a body part rot in the ground when a little child is going to die for the lack of the organ that I took to the grave. My last wishes are take what you need and sprinkle the remaining ashes on the beach.

I have been a donor since the program started in Wisconsin. I figure once I am gone I won't need the organs and they might help someone lead as good a life as I guess I have had.

I have always written in large black letters on the back of my license a "NO" and have discussed this with my family in case I am incapacitated.
I've been called insensitive and everything else in the book- but does it matter what anyone thinks? I'll be glad to donate something while I'm alive- like blood, plasma, etc.

I'm not willing to be a recipient from anyone else, either. If I pass on, I pass on. I am not a wrecking yard.

Plus, I refuse for a greedy funeral home and director to make one thin dime off me and fill my corpse full of ground water poisoning chemicals. (If you need to pickle me, use some good white label George Dickel- the "Select" is better.

) Let my shell decompose in peace in a pine box the way the good Lord meant it to...

Send me flowers while I live.
