Armscor under the mane of Rock Island Armory are very respectable guns. I have a Compact model and it shoots everything well. I've read through the 1911.com comments about them and are all positive.

I've been VERY happy with my RIA Tactical. Lotta bang for the buck. Didn't like the SWC or HP at first but that's getting better as round count goes up.
The ACT mag that came with mine was junk, but when ya buy a 1911 you know yer gonna buy a lot of mags to go with it.

Thanks guys. I've kind of got an itch for a 1911A1. One of my shooting partners said I could try his RIA Match next time we head out. He and another fella I shoot with both spoke well of them. I know Armsco makes parts (frames and I think slides) for others.
I bought one a couple of years ago & have not shot it as much as I would have liked to yet (250 rounds). but it worked great. I think it is a great value for the money.

Oh hey now! That is NICE. The wife likes my Park'd Tactical so much I have to compete for trigger time. I've been considering a stainless RIA & that look like it's exactly what I need.
What model is it? Hope it's "not unsafe" enough for the People's Republik.

These guns are fine out of the box for the price paid. I did notice when building one up with better parts, I had to pay attention to tolerence stacking and go slow on fitting parts. Also, if you put money into it with better parts, it will never increase in value. Only a worry if you ever trade or sell it, if you keep it not to worry.

Exactly. Not just 1911's either. I see a lot on a local classifieds board a guy will have a laundry list of high dollar parts he's put on or into it and then wants to get his money back. What he's really done is create a $5K AR that 1 in several hundred people would actually want.
As for the RIA, the Tactical model had all the upgrades I wanted, none I didn't & the cost over the GI was way less than I would have paid to have it done myself.

Just a word here.
The silver Armscor 1911s are not stainless.
They are nickel, either polished or brushed.
My EDC is a 2 tone Tactical, brushed nickel frame parked slide.

I have one marked Armscor manufactured 2002, also a high polished nickel one marked RIA. Great shooters.
Back in '03 (sounds old, doesn't it?), I was in a friend's gun shop when he got his first Armscor, a military model that retailed at $300. He was wondering how it compared to his Springfield Mil-Spec, so we stripped both of them down to bare parts and examined them.
There were 12 or 13 places where the Armscor was better, including trigger pull and smoothness, barrel crown, slide-to-frame fit, barrel lug fit, link fit, sights, magazine quality, and others (all for $100 less) and no place where it rated worse. I've heard nothing in the intervening years that would make me change my mind. The Armscor is a quality gun at a good price point. One could do worse.

This is good to know information. I was interested in getting a 1911 and did not want to fool with fixing a new gun.
I've had my RIA for a couple of years now and I love it. It shoots better than my Colt Combat Commander ever did, a real tack driver. I'm sold. I'm actually looking to buy another one maybe in nickle this time. Great deal on a quality product. Get some good mags, I bought a dozen Chip McCormick power mags and not one issue. I can afford more expensive guns and mags but why bother when you get what you need at a bargin price (more money for hand loading components and factory ammo
).

Did just that and found it pretty interesting.
Actually looked at a RAI "Tactical" yesterday at a local gun shop. Except for the custom Ed Brown in the case, it had about the best out of the box trigger of all of the 1911's in the case.

My Colt is prettier, but my Rock Island shoots just as well.

The trigger is one of the upgrades of the Tactical model though I'm told the GI is pretty nice as well. A friend has a worked over Colt in .460 Rowland and I can tell no real difference between it and my Tactical.

Armscor also made the 1911's that Charles Daly sold before they went out of business. Seem to be pretty nice guns for the money.

Shot my friend's RIA Match today during a IDPA practice session. He's offered to let me use it in a club match this weekend.
So far, I like it, BUT (and this might sound silly) there alot more going on than with the Glock G17 that I usually shoot for IDPA. The slide and mag releases are going to take a little bit to use to and the grip safety also.
We shal see how well it works in the club match.

I have been looking at them for a while and decided to take the plunge. I got a GI for 375 shipped on Buds. From what I have been reading, they are solid guns. Going to order some Wilson Combat mags, better grips and a flat trigger to start off.
I really want a 625 or 22-4, but this is a good way to get into 45 ACP shooting.

I have a STI Spartan 9mm that is made by Armscor using STI fire control parts. Tremendous gun for the money. My sole complaint is that I wish it had a ramped barrel. Doesn't like flat point bullets.
