Always interesting subject with new knowledge to be garnered.About 40 years ago while plinking in a field which had probably been cultivated for 250 years my young son found a large rectangular biconcave rock.As this was in an area with only sandy soil I told him it was similar to mortar and pestles I had seen in museums.A few minutes later he found the egg shaped hand piece which matched it perfectly.I have only found one arrow head and a couple of broken ones.A quarter of a mile away I found pottery shards I was told were about 3000(?) years old.
I had a couple of patients who had an area where they collected a world class collection of many hundreds of spear points ,arrow heads, bird points scrapers and axes. They had thrown away all the imperfects. Some were obsidian. One beauty was brown and was as clear as a beer bottle glass.Of course this must indicate significant trade as no stony areas are nearby.
In recent years near the Savannah River the Topper Site was discovered and this showed humans in the area for 50,000 years, before the last ice age.The artifacts are most closely related to European stone tools.
We continue to learn.
