John:

I feel your first photo of the Heavy Duty and Outdoorsman should serve as the "Poster Children" shot to show everyone what these revolvers look like in their prime ! That is the ideal pair for any collector of these fine revolvers !

BEAUTIFUL !

Brings a tear to my eye to look at those ( and know they are not mine ! )

Thanks!

Love these old school S&W revolvers. I had a LNIB pre-23 Outdoorsman that was made in 1952. Sold it because I could never bring myself to shoot it.

Stunning guys.

John - I love your "wallpaper" gun - haven't I seen it somewhere before...?

Jerry - I never tire of seeing those transitions of yours. That has to be one of the most impressive gun pics I've ever seen.

Here's a few of mine.

Yep, I believe you owned it for a few minutes!
Thanks again, I consider it one of the finest revolvers in my meager herd.

There are a couple of nice 38/44 HD's, one covered to target.

3_barrel_lengths.jpg

This the 3 common(?) pre-war barrel lengths.

These are my 3 OD's that have the correct grips and everything. 2 postwars and one prewar.

I will reshoot this picture tomorrow because it is about 7 out of date now.

od_pre_target.jpg

Here is 50 shots per target at 15 yrds with a pre-war OD.

od_pre_orig.jpg

The original target is better then mine.

Here it is with its matching box.

Time to resurrect this early post war model again. Barrel was shortened with a King front sight, pawn shop engraving, and lots of character.

Jerry,

Your collection of 38/44s is by far the finest & most correct I have ever seen, and these are only the transitional guns.

You have done a great job of putting together quite a collection. Are you working on any sort of 38/44 Heavy Duty collection too?

I will resurrect its cousin!

Steve brought this snubby Outdoorsman to me in Tulsa awhile back. It does not have the "lots of charcter" of yours but is a great little "shooter" !

Yours has lots of character too. Neat looking gun. Mine is a blast to shoot also.

Here is one more. I picked this one up at the Tulsa show a couple of years ago. I got it at a good price on Sunday. It is a pre war model, that had been fitted with a post war barrel and had no grips. The rear sight was also a later S&W model. At the same show I found the set of Sanderson's for $25 in a junk box, that I put on it, and I picked up a pre war barrel from Bill Patteson. It was an easy project to switch the barrels. While it has no collector value, it is an excellent shooter and it does have that vintage look about it.

Gary,
It looks a lot different (better!) than it did on that table at Tulsa!
