Ashland 60 Value

Worth?

By golly, now there's an interesting point to ponder.

I watched one go back in March for $1,750, as you describe aanib.

Was it "worth" that? Only that winning bidder can say, "Yes."

If I were in the market -- today -- I'd probably want to get in below $1,200, but I don't know if that's possible any more.

Serial numbers I've logged are AIVxxxx, ALUxxxx (the majority), and ANBxxxx (a few).

The correct box should have the label with the PC 102305, and a SPEC ORD of 51xx (at least according to all the ones I've seen).

Good luck. Neat, neat little pea shooter.

Well, The deal happened and I now own the Ashland Shooter's Supply 60-1. As a trade I gave up a beautiful 60-9, 2 1/8" magnum frame that my wife keeps in the coffee table drawer in the den. The adjustable sight 38 will now reside in the drawer for her protection. She does like J frames. Interestingly, the box for this special run is from the Lear Siegler time frame of S&W's history.

BTW, the new to us revolver is loaded with the same Remington "special police load" lead hollow points as the 60-9. Call me old school.

I believe the reference to the Burgundy case is for the mod 60 Lady Smith! My Ashland gun is in a numbered fold-over lid cardboard box used during that time period.

Right you are!! I should have read the first page too... I edited my original post and scratched that comment. Thanks JC!

Congrats.

You made a great deal.

I had to look in my records. I paid $45 more for my 2000 60-9 Lady Smith than for my Ashland 60-1.

As regards spin132's letter, I've seen variety in Dr. Jinks' letters/reports of how many Ashland Model 60s there were. Reported production numbers I've seen in letters are 600, 660, 666, and 1,000, which is what the letter on mine says.

In discussions with several notable authorities on Chiefs Special Target models, the consensus seems to believe the 660 number simply because it's the most frequently cited. The others -- like spin's and mine -- are infrequently reported outliers.

Out of 48 of the Ashland models in my database only a handful with letters do not say 660.

That smart scientist we grew up learning about said, "All things that can be counted don't count, and all things that count can't be counted." Albert Einstein.

What counts here is you having that Chiefs Special Target model with a hammer-mounted firing pin. Obligatory photo of mine attached.

Congrats, again.

Love the Einstein quote. Definitely applies to S&W. I have my letter request form in front of me. I want to have the letter for posterity.

Karen complained about the heavy DA trigger but she'll probably get over it. I'm still going to install a Wolff reduced power rebound spring to accommodate her, though it's really no different than her other J frames. ;)

I suppose I should fish through the thread on corrections to the SCSW, 4th to find the answer but I'm feeling lazy this morning. Page 262 shows product code 102305 as a 3" for ***, and also 2". Which is it, or is it both? This one is a 2" like the ones shown.

Ashland Shooters Supply got ***ed by our auto correct.

I have never seen a 3"! I have talked to one of Joe Stemp's(owner of Ashland Shooters supply) employees many years after the place closed and I was told there were only 2" guns received. I have a small database for these guns and ALL are 2" guns.
