I am trying to re-assemble the bolt to the slide on my Model 41, and I am stuck on the very first step. I ordered new parts from Numrich, and I am trying to follow this video for how to do the job:

The new ejector spring from Numrich is longer than the old one shown in this video. I assume that's because it is new.

I'm attaching a screen capture from the YouTube video of what things are supposed to look like, and also a photo I took of my parts. The ejector spring has been pushed into the hole in the slide, and I placed another ejector spring next to the slide, to show how far the spring goes into the slide.

In the video, the spring and plunger fit most of the way into the hole. For me, the spring seems to go a very short distance into the hole before it reaches bottom. That doesn't make sense - seems to me that the hole should be deeper. I've been using a dental pick to see if anything is trapped inside the hole, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I don't think I am going to be able to compress the spring, and plunger, and slide the bolt into place. The parts are just going to go flying across the room. In the video, it looks so easy....

Any advice as to what I'm doing wrong, if anything?

I'm 95% sure that the previous idiot who worked on this gun before the present idiot, put the plunger in BEFORE the spring. I think I can actually see it!!!! Next question, if I'm correct, how to get it out....????

Squirt some lubricating oil in there and hit it with high-pressure compressed air. Try to do it inside of a large plastic bag so Parts don't fly across the room

Fixed - I sprayed some light oil in there, and tapped the slide on the table, hoping the plunger would come out. Nothing. So I got an aluminum block, and repeated, this time hitting the end of the slide sharply on the aluminum block. Both the spring I thought I had lost, and the plunger came out. I'm not sure why or how they got trapped in the hole, and when I used my dental picks, I couldn't feel the spring, or get it to come out.

Anyway, I had no concerns about losing parts, as I now have lots of extras. The slide went back together just like in the video.

(I think posting everything here, and taking the photos, helped get my mind cleared, so I could think of whatever I might have missed......)

Thanks!

When I replaced my extractor (with a Volquartsen) I found that I needed to de-burr the hole that the spring and plunger go into as my plunger was sticking in the hole. In fact, the hole was burred so much that the plunger did not even come out initially.

Mine is a PC version and the hole had obvious burrs from manufacture.

Wrapped some 1000 grit wet/dry around a tooth pick, inserted into the hole and rotated until all burrs were removed.

The plunger also required a bit of a polish.
Now works perfectly !

QC really is an issue these days.
