i called the s&w line and they said to ask on this forum about trying to figure out what model my revolver is and about what year it is it is a swing out with 38 s&w special ctg on the barrel and my serial number is 33xxxx . I am wanting to restore this old revolver so i want to find out the info so i can get parts for it to bring it back to life .

Sounds like a 1905 Military and Police revolver. Probably made in the 1920s - 1930s or so. A photo would help identify it more accurately. What parts are needed? In any case, it is likely the factory no longer has any parts for this vintage of a revolver.

Hope this helps.

dakota,

If you could post pictures, or at least a little more info, it would go a long way toward helping you out. For example, barrel length, square or round butt, finish, fixed or adjustable sights, etc.

it has fixed sights with the front being a half moon 4 inch barrel and square butt there is no letter before the serial number and the barrel has the last pattent was 1914

This won't help in restoring the gun, but it would have been shipped
around 1919 or 1920. Correct square butt grips would be either
the small gold medallion, or the so-call convex non-medallion wood
grips.

Assuming that this gun has no family or personal history for you,
I don't understand why you want to restore it. Its not worth a whole
lot, and without seeing any pictures, its doubtful that you would
ever recover any money you might spend on it. There are always
guns of this vintage available at decent prices, in decent condition.

The factory won't have any parts for it. Depending on what it needs,
you have to be careful about replacing parts. There are several
minor variations around this serial number.

thanks , i didnt pay a whole lot for it and i think after a reblue it would be a good beater gun. i just think its cool the history this gun could have being so old.
the only part i need is the recoil slide spring . the barrel is a little pitted but im shure wil shot fine with old lead stuff . i was also wondering if newer style grips would fit this style of frame
