Baby Boomers to College Grads: We're Sorry

+2
Busted my ass for 45 years in one way or another. I've got a news flash for some of the now long in the tooth yuppie's doing the "speechifying" in some of these instances.
It was you who were oh so much smarter than the rest of us, who thought your education should be your ticket to riches and the stars that are the one's who've screwed this generations grads prospects. And while you were at it, you've screwed no small number of your own generations actual "real world" workers, too. But I guess since at least one more generation will be paying after this current graduation class, you could call your triumph a Trifecta. But the smoothest move of all, was the election most recent. Once again a shining example of your generations tendency towards circular firing squads. Sure glad you were all the best and brightest. Can you imagine the trouble we'd be in right now, if you weren't?

Get over yourself - it's a fallacy that the majority of us had it handed to us and we dropped the ball. Those that follow always have something to fix, repair, and make better. I have faith the current group is up to the challenge, but the latest generations don't have any more pressing problems than the previous, regardless of what they would like to believe.

Life is struggle and problems. Look back in 30 or 40 years and see how many of your contemporaries "rose above it all" and did so much better than their fathers or grandfathers. Not because they didn't have the opportunity - but if they don't do better it will because they bought into the "oh woe is me" garbage like the article in question.

Turn away from the doom and gloom whiners and determine that you are responsible for you. This divide and conquer class warfare strategy has been the Left's stock-in-trade for decades. It only works if you subscribe to it.

I think you misread my post. I don't accept any of the whining about how the boomer generation is to blame... that was the "Please" part. It's the many, many individuals in our Congress, in our business communities, in our courts and in our communities who !@*&^@! up the market, wrote borderline mortgages, and otherwise engaged in worse-than-questionable business practices who are to blame. Did we hold them responsible? Don't think so.

As for me, I can only look back more than 25 years, so you'll have to pardon my degree of nearsightedness. I damn well earned my degree of achievement. That's precisely why this kind of idiocy infuriates me... I'm tired of paying for slackers and those who somehow think the government owes them a living. You and me are gonna be picking up the tab for this idiocy for a long, long time. If you think you won't, you are sadly mistaken.

Sixty four years old and no apologies here!

But I have to admit, I don't know where this country's headed.

It's going to be a battle but I often tell myself, "American never lost a war it wanted to win."
