I have a Second Model S&W .38 Single Action , AKA Second Model Baby Russian, serial # 3043X.

Can anyone tell me the date of manufacture? Maybe a little history on these also.

Second Models aren't called 'Baby Russians'. Only the First Models with the extended underlug beneath the barrel.

There were 108,000 made from 1877-1891, so yours was made about 1/3 of the way through that production. Early 1880s is as close as you can get without ordering a factory letter.
