I am looking for some clarification on background checks. I was just watching the vote on the senate vote on bill 694 I think ( the expanded back ground check bill). I was voted down. My question is if I buy a gun from an online gun store, i.e. Buds, I pick the gun send some form of payment, Buds ships the gun to my local FFL dealer, MY FFL does the background check before he releases the firearm, right? or am I missing something here. I keep hearing about needing a background check when buying a firearm on the internet. How would the guy selling the firearm even know the person ordering was the real person. Hear in Michigan I can buy a guy without the background check when I go to a gun store because of hold a CPL. I have to show both my CPL and my driver license as proof of identity. So how do you prove identity on the internet when buying a firearm? If I am wrong please let me know. Thanks.

Just another example of politicians who know nothing about firearms and existing firearms regulations passing even more laws that will simply punish the innocent citizen who choose to exercise his constitutional rights.

Confusing huh? If a gun was purchased in Indiana from an internet listing located in Indiana, a background check would be conducted before transfer, I think. Voters have been allowed/encouraged to believe that a firearm sold thru the net is sold with no background check ever. The real goal of gun control is to get control of people's attitude. Hearts and minds, don't you know. The gun control agenda is to portray all things firearm as negative or uncertain for the owner. I should stop now.

You had it right in the first place. You send payment for the gun, seller sends gun to FFL dealer, you go to dealer fill out 4473, dealer calls State police or NICS, they say "carprivers OK", and your good to go.

There is no "Internet loophole" and never was. "Gun control." It aint really about guns, it's just about control.

I was confused about this, too, wondering what in the heck they were talking about. Then I read an article about an Internet forum where guys would post, e.g., "I have $250 and want a handgun. Whatcha got?" And then sellers would post what they have. When a deal is struck, the buyer and seller meet FTF. No background check.

Yes, like Arms List. It them amounts to a FTF private sale which is legal in most free States. Heck, here you can post an ad in the newspaper for sale or to buy classified ads.

The whole Internet thing confused me also, until I realized who was trying to pass these laws.

Perhaps it should have been called the newspaper loophole, or whatever. Basically someone advertises they have a gun for sale and provides a telephone number. A potential buyer calls and a meeting is set up, perhaps at a local McDonalds. They meet, money is exchanged, and the gun swaps hands. No dealer, no background checks, perhaps a bill of sale, but that's it. I bought a gun like that last year. The problem is they have found people selling guns who were convicted Felons. That's the "Internet Loophole". I don't believe anyone on this forum would sell a gun to anyone who wasn't allowed to possess a firearm. Unfortunately not everyone feels as we do and will sell anything, from drugs to guns, to anyone if the price is right.

From the beginning of time it has been perfectly LEGAL to buy and sell guns among friends and family. In most states it still is!

What these politicians are attempting to do (other than ban all firearms) is to have each and every firearm transfer go through a Federal Firearms Licensed person (no one is setting dollar limits on this). This would eventually be converted into a federal registration system and..............guess what comes next!!

If this system comes to pass you will NOT be legally able to give a family heirloom firearm to a child, spouse, other relative, etc.

This silly-*** system is already in place in KommiFornia........every transfer must go through an FFL. Guess who gets to set the transfer fees???? Some FFL's are charging $100 for a simple transfer........

On a federal level this would costs gun owners BILLIONS in wasted money that would never prevent even one crime.

here in NC a ftf sale of a long gun is legal with no background check but a ftf handgun sale (all handgun sales even at a ffl) requires a pistol purchase permit from sheriff or a ccl. seller keeps ppp or checks ccl (most write bill of sale with ccl # on it)
