First time back at the range yesterday with my 38/44 OD's. I took my favorite shooter and my standard OD firing full power 38/44 loads. I popped about 750 round with Magna and Target stocks. Boy I was having a lot of problems at 15 yrds keeping all 50 in a 4" bullseye. My skills have gone downhill quick! Even with target stocks, I had problems with precision.

I think it was many factors but the biggest was no target time for several months. It was really embarrassing to look at the targets. The problem now is that with work schedules and family obligations, I probably won't get back for another month.

Target shooting is a skill you can't let off of.

The only good news is I have empty brass to reload when I get a chance!

My range has 8in of snow and ice on the road to it. Temp is 8 and getting colder all week. So I dry fire a lot in the winter. No range time since October. Every thing is reloaded and ready for spring.

I just had a rotator cuff repair on my right shoulder two weeks ago, and I have no idea as to when I'll be able to shoot again. I don't know for sure, but I think the problem was caused by shooting some hot .45 ACP loads in a Colt 1917 over a year ago, at least that was when my arm pain started. I imagine I won't be shooting any handguns other than .22 and maybe light, light .38 Special loads until maybe the end of the summer. And absolutely no centerfire rifles.

I know everyone says dry fire, but I have to say I don't do it. I really should convert a 38/44 over to dry fire only (take out the firing pin). I just have always worked the whole problem and shot loads.

I think the key is to focus once I get through the next few weeks and start going tot he range every Saturday and really get back in the swing of things.
