Back to the Shield

I've had a shield only a few months, only because it was "as new" at a dealer for 3 bones. I both love and hate it. The 45 sleeps in my wb all day, and by my side at night. It is a soft recoiling 45 any weight or load. The trigger sucks in comparison to any revolver I have ever had, but I keep training to overcome its quirks. I trust it. That counts. If it ever fails in action, I know I will be justified to capture my assailant's weapon.

I bought a 45 Shield last fall. I love it and I hate it.
The trigger is good, for a striker. But I am not a trigger snob.

The most shocking thing to me is how soft it shoots. The recoil isn’t much different than my Sig 220. And I am nearly as accurate with it as the 220.

I hate it because it really makes me question why I have other bottom feeders...well only for a moment anyway. It did make my 365 pointless. It’s gone now.

It’s the only plastic gun I’ve owned worthy of a nice leather holster. Nelson Leather, I am committed to this pistol.

Best .40 I have

I owned many .40 ACP pistols before and after I bought my Shield in 2015. I've sold every one except a Beretta PX4 Storm. The Shield is the softest shooting one I've ever owned.

Nah. It’s a nice pistol, but I’ve moved on to my CZ PCR for carry.

Frankly, I’d be tempted to sell it and move on ... But, I’d be taking a loss on it. So in the safe it sits.

My lil’ sis is starting to show an interest in firearms. Maybe I’ll see if she likes shooting it.

I think I'll buy one of the Shields with a safety while they're still $199 including rebate. I like everything about the gun including the stock sights but I might polish the trigger parts a little if it needs it but a 5 lb trigger is fine with me on a defensive handgun, especially one that might be in a pocket.

I liked my Shield but never loved it. Some guns you buy because they look good and perform well. The shield performed well, but looked so-so. The last girl that gets invited to the prom. I got the Shield long after I was toting a Glock as a LEO, and just didn't develop enough affection to grow to like it. (Nor the Glock, either...both fine pistols) Later on I carried a Kahr PM9, which won me over because it was accurate. And small, and looked good to my eyes.

Went from Glock 26 to the shield when they came out, 43 comes out and switch to that, I sell the Shield. Carry 43 for awhile but never really take to it. Buy the shield 2.0 when they come out, anyway back and forth, now a 1.0. I really believe I'm going to stick with it, I also carry an LCR38 quite a bit. Bought a 2.0 compact for the movies/some other area where I feel I could be in a tight spot and need more rounds. But very happy with the shield,
8 rounds is good, with a back up.

Carried one 4 years. Sold it at a gun show a few months ago with 2 mags for $200. Bought s P365. Not going back.

When the Shield came out, a friend lucked into finding one in stock. He let me borrow and shoot it for a couple weeks. I was sold and bought the first one I could find, which took a while. I looked for a few weeks before finding one in stock anywhere, rushed there and bought it. Shields were HOT when new and it was HARD finding any stores that had them in stock. When they came in, they sold out FAST!

I had been carrying an ancient Glock 26 before that, Never an issue with the G26, it was just kinda bulky and chunky. The Shield is enough thinner that, for me, it hides a lot better under just a t-shirt during the summer than the G26.

I really love my Shield. I lost count a long time ago of how many rounds I have put through it, but it is several thousand. The only issue I ever had with it is the magazine release rusting one time after I sweated on it like a pig one summer day working outside. It still worked, it was just hard to press. Not a big deal, simply pop it out of the frame, clean it up, smear some BreakFree on it and reinstall. Every time I clean it, I dribble some lube on it and work the release several times to get the lube down inside the frame, wipe off the excess and never another issue.

I know it's a minor consideration, but the finish is incredibly durable. I have been carrying my Shield pretty much daily for several years in an Alien Gear hybrid holster and the finish still looks like new. I know the slide is melonited stainless and rust and corrosion really aren't a problem, but I really like that the finish has held up so well over the years.

I will freely admit that I have never tried a Sig P365, a Walther PPS or any of the other really small CCW guns. I will say, however, that they would have to be substantially better than my Shield to make me replace it. For me, it is perfectly sized (I can get about 3/4 of my pinky on the grip with the 7 rd mag installed, so absolutely no wasted size on the grip), wonderfully accurate and recoil is perfectly controllable. It truly is a small gun that shoots like a big gun and I can't see anything replacing it for me.

I still have all of the other guns I bought. The P365 is my second choice for carry. It is a fine gun. I simply don’t shoot it as well as the Shield. It may very well be the fact that the Apex trigger in the Shield has several thousand more rounds against it and it has smoothed out over time.

The P365 will still go to the range regularly. If I begin to shoot it better than the Shield, I don’t have a problem going back. I really don’t care what the cost is or if it looks cool. I want it reliably putting rounds within the 10 ring as often as I am able to do so. I hope to never have to use any gun in self defense but if I ever do, i hope it goes bang every time I pull the trigger and the bullets end up in the bad guys chest.

My everyday carry gun is a Bodyguard 380, but my Shield 9 is my favorite handgun. Next on my to buy list is a Shield 45.
