Has anyone else gone back to the Shield after spending money of other guns?

I bought my Shield a number of years ago well before they were priced like today. Added night sights and an Apex trigger. I carried it for a few years but then decided I wanted smaller and lighter. So, I bought a LCP custom. Found out quickly that I would have to be inside a small barn to come close to hitting any side. I went back to the Shield.

Next was a few months with a PPS. Just didn’t like it. Back to the shield. Then a Sig 320 SC. Too fat to conceal.

Then read about the P 365. It is the second best for me to carry but even after spending a good bit of time shooting it, it just doesn’t shoot as well for me.

The other guns are reliable and accurate. But the Shield shoots closer to my 1911s than anything else. My issue with carrying the 1911 is weight and size. I don’t think l’ll buy anything else for carry...well maybe a Shield II.

45

I've had a shield only a few months, only because it was "as new" at a dealer for 3 bones. I both love and hate it. The 45 sleeps in my wb all day, and by my side at night. It is a soft recoiling 45 any weight or load. The trigger sucks in comparison to any revolver I have ever had, but I keep training to overcome its quirks. I trust it. That counts.

The Shield is one of those guns that does a lot of things really well. That is part of the reason for it's popularity. There are others that are lighter, smaller, have a better trigger, and maybe have more capacity but at the end of the day, it's hard to beat a Shield for an all around EDC weapon.

I had a Shield 9 for EDC and sold it to buy a Model 10 figuring I could carry my Sig P226 instead. I soon missed the Shield and started looking for a used one. When the prices went so low this year I replaced it and won't sell it again. I've never had either of my Shields malfunction after over 1000 rounds. I carry a 5 shot DAO snub often but sometimes 8+1 is better.

I went the other way. I bought, carried, and test fired a number of guns before I came to the shield. I don't know why but I was blind to the Shield for several years. My only regret is that I didn't discover it earlier.

EDCed the Shield for a while after I first got my carry permit. Now it's my backup carry to a PCR.
The Shield is a good firearm, but I'm a better shooter with the PCR.

I've been carrying a Shield and don't intend to get rid of it. I did just buy a 2.0 9c and will evaluate whether I want that to take it's place. I've only had the opportunity to shoot the compact once so far but it seems to shoot just a little better for me. Not that the Shield doesn't shoot well.

Bought a Shield three years ago. Put 2k round through it and Carry it every day.

Yes. Overall, I liked my Shield very well and particularly like guns with a thinner profile. But the Shield was just a little too thin for my liking. I decided to purchase the new Glock 43X. The Glock felt great in the hand, and you could purchase the Shield Arms 15 round magazine without increasing the length of the mag. But, I noticed that my trigger finger had a tendency to drag across the trigger guard. Something I did not like at all. I sold the Glock before I even had a chance to fire it and went back to the Shield. Upon suggestions from other members here, I put a Hogue beavertail grip sleeve on my Shield and it added the necessary girth. I didn't like the finger groove on the Hogue grip. It seemed to crowd my fingers. I just replaced the Hogue grip with a Pachmayr Grip Sleeve without finger groove. It is a softer rubber and installed very easily. The Shield feels great in the hand now and is the right size and weight for my tastes. The only thing that I don't like about it is how the spacer on the 8 round magazines moves out of place. I have the Pearce grip extensions on all of my magazines. They say that they are intended for the 7 round mags, but I put them on my 8 round mags as well and the feel good and work great. I just ordered a 5"x7" sheet of Talo Grip material. I intend to wrap it around the grip extension and the spacer. This should bind the two together and prevent the movement. I have read a lot of positive things about the Shield and feel confident in it. And I was a "never Tupperware" kind of firearms guy. My favorite carry pistol is the Kahr K9, but they are out of my price range. I may own another one some day. But until then, I feel well armed and happy with my Shield.

Somewhat my evolution. I shot my Shield PC .45 last week at the range and it performed very well. Until I read your comment about shooting like your 1911's I honestly hadn't made that connection. The 1911 is my favorite gun to shoot in either full or compact size. I have been carrying the P365 XL as of late and have always worked a compact 1911 into the occasional carry. Point is, after the range trip I asked myself "why do I carry anything else" most days. The Shield lacks in capacity (some cases) lacks in appearance and is no longer the latest and greatest. But damn, I do shoot that plain old thing well.

Thanks for the replies. It is nice to know I am not alone in liking my well used Shield better than the latest and greatest.

I've seen the Shield 1.0 in my area for as low as $250.With a price that low, I am tempted to purchase another one. I paid around $450 for mine when I purchased it (less $50 rebate).

It's more the other direction for me. I was carrying a 642 when I won a Shield in a raffle. I carried the Shield for awhile, liked it, trusted it, but for pocket carry I prefer the 642. Normal practice now is the 642 is for daily carry around home and I switch the the Shield when traveling.

I particularly like the fact that its grip is shaped similarly to the M39 I carried on the job and while the Shield is smaller, the capacity is the same with the extended mag.

Picked up a Shield soon after they came out. Didn't go the Apex route. Instead, had the gunsmith at my LGS smooth out the factory trigger. it's been as dependable as the sun rising in the east. So much so, I bought a Shield 45 when they hit the market. My only problem is which one to carry. I'd never debate anyone as to the Shield's merits compared to fill-in-the-blank, run what you want. I know the piece and am good with it, (both actually). Should the excrement ever get real, I'm confident the Shield will take care of business, if the guy behind it does his part.

As long as you are happy with what you carry, it is great. I like my Shield. I’ve tried J-frames and simply cannot shoot them well. A J-frame was all my dad ever carried and he could hit whatever he aimed at. Somewhat embarrassing for me but that is life. My love of the 1911 did start with him.

The only thing that I hope is that the good guys I am with actually carry. I have a lot of friends and family that own and are licensed to carry be rarely do. You can carry a single action 22 short for all I care if you are willing to help when the SHTF.

Got one in the first iteration. It's a fine pistol, robust and accurate enough. The trigger is a striker-fired trigger, nothing to write home about but good enough for anything but competition. But it takes about $100 to bring it up the line...trigger, night sights, whatever.

The thing about the Shield is a lot of other small pistols have come out lately which makes the Shield kinda long in the tooth in the modern armory. While mine is relatively light weight and kinda small, there are new pistols out there that are very light weight and with good sights and better stock triggers.

So mine resides in my dresser drawer. I carry a 365 which fits my hand better, is lighter, thinner, higher capacity, and has great sights. But YMMV. I certainly wouldn't feel unarmed with a Shield in a self defense situation. It's a fine pistol.
