Protecting Responsible Gun Sellers Act of 2013 (S. 374) - GovTrack.us

Time to send out those letters again to your senators, specifically mentioning S. 374. This isn't going to end until they give up...and they are waiting for us to give up...so don't let up.

I wonder how many people would be on board with this bill if they learned about minutae such as the requirement to notify the Attorney General in addition to Law Enforcement about a lost or stolen firearm and giving him/her the sole power to determine how much the transfer/NICS fees should be. I'm not much for slippery slope arguments, but what's truly stopping the AG from arbitrarily raising these fees to the point of making this an extreme inconvenience?

I used to think that universal checks were a reasonable concession until I learned just how exactly they could be misused, especially in light of this bill as it's written. Any and all opposition to S. 374 should stem from the broad and sweeping powers it grants in addition to the fact that the existing transfer/NICS system is already inundated.
