Backgroung Check delayed in AZ

I have been told that having/had a security clearance is not the reason for a delay. Last gun I purchased NICS was down I had to return the next day to complete the transfer.

In Fl ,all the CCP allows you is to walk out with your pistol the same day you bought it . Overtime I buy one or have a transfer , it has to be called in . I too held Secret and Top Secret clearances and you would think that would mean something .

Why? It was job related, it should have nothing to do with your existence in the wider community. The wider community, i.e. the NICS system, does not need to know.

A delay might be caused by a computer problem, a data link down temporarily, or even an employee or two out for the day.

I don't know about the OP's state, but here in Colorado the gun store personnel will not know the reason for a delay or denial. Even if denied it is up to the individual to go through the appeal process to clear up any problems.

Unless you see the gun store staff speaking quietly on the phone while glancing suspiciously at you, or hear sirens approaching, probably nothing to worry about.

Once had a colleague request my assistance on a background investigation. The name and DOB came back as a fugitive with several arrest warrants. I pulled the details, went to the man's place of business. The warrants were for a white male, the subject was black. Case closed.

7shooter NCIS May have database on stolen firearms but unless there is a deep state they have no database on S&W serial numbers .

Security clearances don't come up during a NICS check, but as Muss pointed out you may earn yourself an FBI number thanks to being fingerprinted which could cause a delay. Just being fingerprinted in the military doesn't count, unless it was in conjunction with a request for a check for a TS.

I had a doozy - the TS/SCI with the always-fun yearly date with the friendly polygrapher. It never helped or hurt with a NICS check. I'm retired, but some of it followed me into a retirement gig with a defense contactor. No polygraph, though.

Where holding of a Clearance may come into play is when you first applied for your CWFL. Maybe.

I also had a Top Secret clearance while serving in the US Army in the 60s. I don't recall any NICS delays since the 1968 law was passed. I imagine at some point the clearances from that far back are erased.

I had always been delayed when buying a firearm so a Police Officer friend ran me through the system and I came up clean as I knew I would,I then called the BATF and explained the issue and they were extremely nice about it and ran all my information and I still came back clean. The only thing they could say is the someone with the same name as me is a felon and with the limited information on the forms they would put me on hold for further checking. It also could be the time of day the purchase is made as they are not as busy early in the day but are usually backed up in the afternoon so I purchased a handgun the next morning and I was approved in minutes so it must be the time of day.
